Is it possible to move the filter to another tank? If it's not, you can move the media from inside the filter instead. Media can be persuaded to fit a different type of filter. When you get a bigger tank, tells us what the filter you have now is and what the new filter is and we'll help you squeeze the old media into the new filter.
