Hello Everyone :)

I have had my 45 gallon tank for over a year now. I had finally gotten the fish mature and to full size when I had just 2 left to introduce, my Angelfish.

I added what I was told were mated pairs from my LFS. Turns out they were both males and any time I had to vaccum the tank and move ornaments, afterwards they would fight by locking lips & biting eachothers sides. The last fight was a bit vicious so I contacted my LFS and they took them back. It was unfortunate because they were beautiful and big.

So now, here is what I am left with. 4 Glass Cats, 4 dalmation mollies, 2 xray tetras, 2 white cloud minnows, 1 panda cory, 3 gobys, 2 paradise fish.

I originally had more tetras and minnows but the numbers dwindled with the Angelfish. I was thinking about getting 2 or 3 more of each since they are a shoaling fish.

What I am looking to get is another big fish or two. I cannot keep Discus here because in Limerick, Ireland the water has way too much lime. Does anyone have any ideas for suitable tankmates that would be big enough to really show in the tank?

Thanks for your opinions!
Jaime

Hi yeah I agree with Kevin about the panda but if this is after the angel no worries, Ive just rehomed a pair of Leopoldi Angels which turned out to be a bit of a nightmare all in all.

Heres what I would initially

3 Paradise Fish <------ its often best to keep 3 so you have 1 male to 2 females this keeps him occupied and less problematic for the other fish
6 Glass Cats
4 Dalmation Mollies
8 Xray Tetras
8 White Cloud Minnows
6 Panda Cory
3 Gobys <------ what kind of gobies are these, if your unsure of a name post a pic or give us a description :)

To be honest over all you have a really nice sounding tank, you have fish at all levels top, middle and bottom, you have 2 small fish schools, 1 big fish school, feature fish and then the group of mollies as a second group of feature fish. But if your wanting an other fish or two Ive got a few ideas, a trio of Panchax would work really nice in that tank the common ones are golden wonders but you can get a few other varieties as well like red and blue nice colourful fish that stick to the surface - keep these 1 male to 2 females the male gets quite big but the females are considerably smaller. The other option would be to get some kind of small plec - http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/numbers.php?mode=l&thumbs=16&start=1&genus_id=0 thats the L number library listing every plec known to the hobby and their species name, have a browse through and have a look for one you like around 4/5 inches. Inspector, King tiger and Queen Arabesque are always nice small plecs for this size tank :)

Hi Kevin & Wills,

Here are the pictures of the gobys attached. And actually it is a Julii cory, but they need to be in a larger group as well so I will definately think about it. I have a cube tank so it was important to get fish at all different levels within the tank. Like I said, I was devastated with the Angels because they were full size and really made a show of the tank. The killifish is a great idea, never thought of one, I was also told silver dollars or perhaps even a bala shark?

I also have 2 rainbows, dunno why I forgot about them!

Let me know if you can tell which they are? I am unsure but they are quite interesting!

Kind Regards,
jaime

The gobies look like some kind of Stiphodon (spelling) so should be fine in the tank they stay quite small. With the rest of your stock Silver Dollars are a no in that tank they are really big fish as adults and Bala sharks are a massive no, always sold to small tanks when in reality they are a 16 inch shoaling fish that never stops moving a tank for these when kept correctly is going to be in the region of 8 foot long and 3 foot wide.

What kind of Rainbow fish are they? They are also best kept in 5s or 6s if its one of the bigger species I would perhaps just up their numbers to these levels and leave the tank at that.
