After some thinking, & being a fish addict, and some advice on these boards, I'm thinking of purchasing a new tank.

I'm thinking a 20 Gallon Long, or maybe a bit bigger. I am planning to put it on my dresser, as I have little room & no where else to put it. Do you think that it would be OK on there? weight wise? Currently it is holding both of my tanks & misc junk.

Secondly, about how much would one of these cost? I think I would only need the tank & a new filter, plus a bit more gravel, would I be better off just buying a cheap set up kit?

Lastly... would i need to cycle it if I used the gravel, water, filter cartridge, etc from the old tank? I'm roughly new to cycling... & I'm just not sure how that would work.

Thanks for any help!

The 20 long is a nice tank. The 25 gallon offers the same dimensions with a little more height to it. You need to make a judgment call on your dresser--I've kept up to 33 gallons on mine, but I don't know what yours is like.

I highly recommend buying the equipment seperately. Those kits are put together for price competiveness, and often come with inferior products that will need to be replaced anyway. Since you already have some of the equipment just buy what you need, at the quality level you want it at.

If you transfer your filter and gravel to the new tank, and the new bio-load is the same as the old bio-load, then your tank will pretty much pick up from that as a cycled tank. There is however, no need to transfer all the old water, and no benefit from it, all you will be doing is starting your new tank off with dirty fish water.

Thank you for your advice :) I'm so excited now! I found a 20L for $28.99, which I think is pretty good, compared to the few other places I checked. I also found a place that would take in my fry, yay!

My dresser is solid oak, so I'm thinking (or hoping) that it will hold.

Now I just have to fit this into my budget, along w/ saving for my vacation & other things, hehe.

I'm right smack in the middle of PA ;)

I went to the pet store today, and they just sold the last 20L! I was so very disapointed...

Yeah I definitly wouldn't buy one of those kits. I did with my 10 gallon and I'm very very disapointed with the filter. The heater seems to be holding up though. Sorry to hear the 20L is out of stock at your lfs, sounded like a pretty good price to me. I'm supposed to be getting a 20 Long from a friend but they seem to have disapeared off the face of the earth :grr:
