My very fat female Molly got 'stuck' in the space, in a piece of coral decorating the tank. She was trying to get a piece of food that had fallen in the coral. She is an absolute glutton and fights to eat everything before anyone else has a chance. She is not pregnant right now (her 2 week old fry are doing nicely in another tank). My husband cut the coral and freed her, but it looks like she has a small bruise on top of her head. I want to prevent any infection, but don't know the best proceedure. She is in a 30 gallon tank with 3 other mollies (1 male), 5 neons, 2 pristellas, 2 black skirts, 4 platys, a cory and an algae eater. My water readings are all ok. I check them often. I change 25% percent of the water once or twice a week. My main question right now is what to do with her. I have a 10 gallon tank set up with no inhabitants. It has only been up for about 3 weeks. My fish guide-guru at the local fish store (not available right now) told me yesterday, I could add fish if I wanted to. I wonder if I can put my Molly in it and make it a hospital tank? I just don't know how to treat her.

Thanks in advance for your wonderful support!

There are three things here both of which may or may not be obvious. The first is what appears to be a bruise could be symptomatic of something more sinister such as an internal haemorrage, and secondly the fish will have been stressed with the struggle and may have lost valuable electrolyte. Then there's perhaps the wound aspect. So firstly what I would personally do is seperate the fish and make a hospital tank. Then treat the water with stress coat and perhaps some Liquisil as a general med. Then watch your fish carefully. When setting up your hospital tank, extract the water from the main tank if possible. In this way you minimalise the shock of new water to the Molly. Good luck.
