Okay, so here's what I was thinking.

With the empty 29, i'd like to do a species tank, but what species? I like african cichlids, adn I kinda am leaning for a shark tank. Really a few diff. types of sharks, so it wouldn't exactly be a species i guess, but any way. What do y'all think I should do with my empty tank (or when it becomes empty)? I don't mind how aggressive they are, as they wont be kept with anything other than their own kind...

my thing is (if its a tall tank) here is wat i would do!

3 hatchet fish
5 head and tail light
1 long find serpea
1 yoyo loach
1 black kuhli loach
2 metea cories
2 glass fish
1 rubber nose pleco
1 SAE

but thats just me and what i dream of having

What are the dimensions of the tank?

What sharks were your thinking of adding?

Personally I'd go for a pair of Rams, some schooling tetra and a plec.

I don't think you could do a shark tank, as most of them get too big for a 29 gallon, and to have a bunch of them you'd most likely need a 100-200+ gallon tank. Enless there's such thing as a small shark...

RTBSs are one of the smaller ones I think, and they really need 50G when they're fully grown. Not only that, but they really don't like a: any of their own species b: anything that is the same shape as them (i.e. any other sharks).

If want a fish with personality and don't mind only having one fish in the whole tank i'd suggest a Flowerhorn cihclid if you can find one. I have a 55 with africans which i love but since i got my 29 and put my ZZ Flowerhorn i have found myself paying much more attention to this new fish because it is mr. personality. This fish seems to be interested in everything that is going on in the house. I often catch it and my cat watching each other closely. Super agressive fish, will even charge your arm and sometimes bite when moving stuff in the tank. They can also come in a variety of shapes and colors too since they are a hybrid species. They range in price greatly too depending on coloration and body.

My FH $16

Okay so sharks out of the question...

I was thinking just any kind of shark really, no particular one... I like (as mentioned) the red tips, but dont have the requirements...

Sorry i haven't replied lately... I forgot about it and then when I remembered, I sort of "lost" it.

I still want a species tank, so please give me some other ideas.

How about a few parrot fish? Or is the tank too small for even one or 2?

BTW: I'm kinda likin' the rams and plec idea...

okay, whatn type plec to get? Bristle nose?

And what tetras... I'd like a diff kind than neons as i'll have 10 soon, so I want something diff in this tank than what's in the other...

I like ALL tetras, and they are pretty much the same to care for, only thing i want is a colorful one. I like the neons b/c they are, well, neony. Maybe I should go for that tetra that is often thought to be a neon, but the patterns are diff? Cant recall their name...

edit: Its cardinal tetras! Just looked up the name... OR maybe some black neons... Hmmm, such a tough decision! OOOO Or maybe some penguin tetras... OR a silver dollar (those arent tetras tho :S )

1 long find serpea
1 yoyo loach
1 black kuhli loach
2 metea cories
2 glass fish

Just for reference (not trying to pick on ya or anything!), all of the above-quoted fish like to be in groups. Serpaes, like many Tetras in the aquarium hobby, are a schooling fish and should be kept in groups of at least five, preferably more. Serpaes can be a bit nippy, so they probably wouldn't do well with long-finned fish (Angels, Guppies, Bettas) or smaller fishes (Neon Tetra sized and smaller). They're very pretty though.

Loaches and Coryies are very social and like to have buddies. I would recommend no fewer than three, preferably four to six. Glass Catfish (assuming that's what you mean by Glassfish) also like to be in groups.

There are many little Tetras and Rasboras that are colorful and are appropriate for a 29-gallon. Neon or Black Neon Tetras, Cardinal Tetras, Glo-Lite Tetras, Lemon Tetras, Silver-Tip Tetras, Rummynose Tetras, Harlequin Rasboras, Rummynose Rasboras, Spotted Rasboras, just to name a few. Silver Dollars get too big for a 29-gallon.

German Blue Rams are lovely,. Gold Rams (color morph of Blue Rams), Kribensis, or Cockatoo Cichlids would also work. I think Bolivian Rams would do fine in a 29-gallon, as well, but double check that.

As for algae eaters, you have a number of options: Siamese Algae Eater (I have one in my 29), a little Plec of some sort (too many species to list), or some Otos are the ones I'd recommend.
