Hi. I just noticed that I've got a single platy fry in my little 10 gallon tank. I've had fry before but have never really tried to raise them; they've all been eaten fairly quickly.

Today is Easter Sunday and no stores are open so I can't go buy a fancy breeding trap so I'm looking for ideas to make one out of something from around the house. I've managed to get the fry into a good sized glass jar. I'm wondering if i can put some holes in the lid and leave the fry in the jar so it won't get eaten.

Any tips or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

that should be fine, as long as you keep the temp right, maybe float it in the main tank some how?

Yeah, the jar is in the 10 gallon tank sitting on the bottom. I have yet to put holes in the lid though. Thanks for the help!

I would just take the lid off and put the top above the water line, then the fry has a chance to get plenty of oxygen and not get eatten. Just take a coat hanger or some wire and wrap it around the jar and hang it over the tank. That will be a little bit better although If you're going to buy a suitable trap tomorrow then I wouldnt worry about it too much.

Or use some tights and spread it across the top and secure around with elastic band so its like netting.
