i have have had a 30 gallon tank running now for 5 weeks. now i know the cycling process is probably either just starting or is already in process and getting close to the end. but the question that i have is my fish keep dying. i have tried many different types and they all turn up dead. one day they are all fine, eating, playing, swimming and having a great time and the next day belly up on the bottom. i first started out with a 2 1/2 gallon tank in which i first started the fish in. all seemed fine in that tank so i moved them to the 30 gallon tank and for about 1 week they were fine ( 2 guppies, 3 neons). all neons died in 2 days, and my guppie just died at the beginning of this week. swelled up and virtually exploded. i run daily water tests on my water and even bring water samples to pet stores and all tests are good. i have even asked the pet stores what could be killing them and they dont have any answers. 3 days ago i bought another guppie and a penguin tetra and yesterday when i came home from work they were both dead. any help in this strange matter would be greatly appreciated.

thanks for the help in advance and hopefully somebody can shed some light on the subject.
:grr:

Can you give us some info on your tank? What were the results of the tests? Filtration? How did you cycle the tank, with fish or fishless?

well for the first 3 weeks i started cycling with out fish then i put what fish i did have in my quarantine tank into the 30 gallon tank. and like i said they did fine for a week and then started dying off slowly but surely. from that batch of 7 fish i have only 1 guppie left (had 2 and 5 neons). filtration i am using a underwater gravel filter made by aqua-tech plus a power filter also made by aqua-tech model 30-60. as for the results of the tests the only thing that was high was my nitrite which i fixed by doing a 50% water change(did it twice two 25%). the ph is a little high around 8.2 and there is no amonia but i have just done a water change yesterday so everything is fine now except for the ph which is still a little high in my opinion. on tuesday i had purchased a penguin tetra(hockey stick), and another guppie and both died sometime through the day yesterday. they both looked fine when i left for work and when i came home both were bellie up at the bottom of the tank.

I dunno quite what you're doing myself, I've never been good at that stuff, but if you want a fish that just won't DIE, get a zebra danio. Get a few of 'em. I think they like being in groups. As it is, I had three once, and they just WOULDN"T DIE for four years!!! In the end, I just had one left that was so mean and ugly I was literally thinking about killing it myself before it bit the dust. But anyway, I think those would probably make good cycling fish. If you manage to kill those, than man, I don't know what to tell you!!!
