Need Help

I have a 56gal tank..it's not set up yet.

I plan to have a sand bottom with live plants.


I need to know.. what kind of sand to buy, and do I need any kind of substrate under the sand in order for the plants to grow and be healthy?

Hi. I put laterite under my sand, i used argos play sand, and i`ve been very pleased with growth.

Most people in the US who choose sand for their tank go for pool sand. I think it is used in swimming pool filters.

As for substrate fertilisers, you could either go for fertiliser tabs which you place under individual plants if you don`t intend on having many, or you can use products such as API Laterite or JBL Florapol, to name just a couple. The latter type you lay on the bottom of your tank and put the sand on top.

Okay..so with the Laterite stuff do I need to change that out ever?
