It can be easy, you just got terrible advice fro the store which unfortunately is very common. Members can help you through this easily, starting from a clean slate (no fish). The plants are fine and will greatly benefit.

What filter do you have?
Is the dosage of them "aquarium bombs" 1 per 200 litres?

I believe so, yes. If I were to use it could I just split it into a quarter?
