Need Help With Me Ehiem Canister Filter

Its been a while since I been on here I even had to make a new account just now cause I couldn't recover my password, but anyway now to the point of the post I just got a 90gallon tank came with a a eheim wetdry canister filter 2227 professionel to be exact I have everything set up but I'm really confused at one part an its driving me crazy cause the filter is second hand all the major parts are there except for the cleaning rod I was able to pull up the owners manual off the internet, so I have it all set up now I'm at the part or getting it started its says to create a siphon threw the intake tube an once the water fills up in the hose I'm guessing then plug in only problem is I don't know how or what they mean by create a siphon I heard ppl say to prim it but i don't know if u would need a too to do that I seen newer models with I primer button on it but I don't have money for a whole new filter so plz someone if u understand the problem im talking about your help would be greatly appreciated

creating a siphon meaning getting water to pass freely through the intake pipe before connection to filter.
this will then fill the canister so no air is in the pipe which is a must!
same with return pipe back to tank , you want to make sure that is free flowing too so when the filter is the plugged in making it run smoothly without causing stress to impeller etc..
