Need Help On Stocking 40 G For A Friend

My friend currently has a 40g tank. It Has~


-6 Blackskirt Tetras
-3 Gouramis
-1 Molly
-1 Platy
-1 Silver Tipped Shark

What will be good additions for the tank in the future? I would like your opinions, Thanks.

Nothing because the bala shark he has in the tank will be to big for it and needs to be in groups of at least 3 and if I'm not mistaken that need at least a 125g.

If you read more carefully,, it's not a bala shark.... it's a silver tip shark...

I know 99% of the fish pics that showed up when I typed that were these fish. I only saw that one pic you posted on here.

Durbkat.........silver tipped sharks and ballas are very different. balas are actually of the minnow family while the silver tipped are of the catfish family.

anyway these guys get quite big which limits what can go in the tank. i belive somewhere close to 2 feet. also with out knowing what type of gouramis we cant help much, they could be dwarf which are only 12 inches or a kissing which is a foot.........and there are even larger gouramis out there. also the same for the molly depending on the type they range in size from 2-5 inches. i will be glad to help i just need to know what type of gouramis he has and the type of molly and then i need to find out how big the silver tip will grow to.

the silver tip grows to a foot long accorin to my lfs. the molly; i forgot the name but it's has a big belly. And the goruaimis r the blue ones; i forgot the name.

ok assuming your lfs is right then i def have nothing else on the bottom level of the tank. the gouramis sound like 3-spots(do they have 2 black spots on the body in line with the they eyes?). the molly sounds like a ballon(does it have a big belly like it ate a whole lot a food?)

assuming that info is correct the only thing i would suggest would be a few more mollies and platties. make sure they are all female or the correct male/female ratio(1 male per 2-3 female) and more of the tetras. there isnt too much room for anything really.........the gouramis alone(if i got the correct type )is 18 iches of fish and if your lfs is correct than the silver tip makes it 30. and of course you can go past the inch per gal rule as long as you have good filtration and are very religious about water changes.

the molly is named bellied molly. I'm not sure about the gourami cause i'm not at his house. Seriously gouramis grow to 18 inches?

some do. the ones that i think your friend might have grow to 6 inches. with 3 of them thats 18 inches.

like i said the best bet for this tank would be to have:
1 silver tipped shark
3 gourami
3 mollies(all female or 1 male and 2 female)
3 platies(same as mollies)
9 Blackskirt Tetras

this would probly the be the most possible to put in the tank assuming i got the sizes of the fish correct. be sure that he keeps on top of the water chages.
