Need help indentifying gender of rams

Hi one of my friends needs help indentifing the gender of these rams please thanks in advance

The more colourful one is male and the less colourful one is female if I'm not mistaken.

He has both a German blue ram and a Bolivian ram. Not a great mix imo, best to stick to one species rather than mix the two.

The German blue looks like a male from those pics, though admittedly GBR aren't my area. We'd need a better pic of the Bolivian to be sure of its sex.

It's belly does look sunken, and I think the ram is a female as males are most known to be colourful.

Colour isn't used to sex Bolivians. They can both be drab, they can both look stunning. Their colours can look drab especially if they are newly added, or young, stressed and not in the best of health. Which I believe is true in all cases here.

The ventral and anal fins are pointed, the caudal fin shows the beginnings of extensions (which females get to some degree, but usually at a later stage). Unless OP gets a better picture of the vent and shows otherwise, this is looking male.

What does that mean if the belly is sunken ?

Rams often come with sunken bellies. It can simply mean they haven't been eating, but it can also be an indicator of internal parasites. How is the ram eating?

I agree with Bub that both fish are in stress, and I also agree (though it is with no certainly at all) that both are male. If they are male, and assuming they regain their health so they will then function according to the inherent traits of the species, they may decide they do not want each other in "their" space.

I assume these are your friends' fish...if he/she is thinking of getting more, hence asking about gender, don't. Both of these fish must select their mates and bond; if not, one of them (usually the female) will be dead before many weeks pass.

There are also temperature issues. The blue or common rams must be kept in warm tanks, at least 80F (27C) and a degree or two higher would not hurt. The Bolivian does not need this high a temperature, but it will manage. I've no idea what other fish may be in this tank, but many of our "tropical" species cannot last at very high temperatures.

Hi I have a 110L fish tank with 5 ghost catfish 5 angelfish 2 jojo loaches 4 male guppies 2 mollies 4 neon tetras 4 cherry Barbs 2 kissing gourmi 2 dwarf gourmi 2 female dwarf gourmi 1 German blue ran and one red ram wanted to add 2 more ram is this to over crowded?

If yes, there are significant issues as we have been mentioning. These rams are not compatible with many of those other fish either.

There is no temperature compromise. The blue ram must have over 80F/27C. The others need it a tad lower, then the neon tetras and barbs lower still, around 75-76F (24.5 to 25C).

yes this is the same tank set up and ok so deffo a rly need to be removing some fish can you give me some options as to which fish I can keep together and which I need to take back ?

Not until we know your water parameters. But I also recommend you continue this discussion (returning fish/acquiring new fish) in the other thread because there is more information there, and other members than me have posted, and some of those species are definite returns as they will never work. It helps to keep everything in one place and you will be better advised.
