Need help identifying ick or not

Yep just keep an eye on it. Mine got his fin torn and it grew back white.

Ich would normally spread pretty fast. How long has the spot been there?

The convict that I still have today had 2 spots just like that for about 3 weeks. I was convinced that It was not ich for that reason, but after around 3 weeks, it started getting bad. He was covered in ich and I rose the temperature to 86. No other fish were infected.

It end up being the most stubborn case of ich I've ever dealt with. Although he was covered in ich, he was behaving and eating as normal. After nearly 2 weeks of continuously getting worse in the main tank, I moved him to a hospital tank by himself and used rid-ich. This was the only time that I've ever had to use medication for ich. He responded very well to the medicine, recovered fast and I moved him back to the main tank after he was healed and there was no chance of bringing it back into the main tank.

Did you need to do anything to the main tank or just him?

Only temperature raise in the main tank.

The main tank temperature was risen to 86 and kept there even after the convict was moved. I want to say I kept it there for 10 days until starting to lower it. All other fish were just fine.

I don't remember exactly, but the convict was probably in the hospital tank for 2-3 weeks. Rid ich did wonders in this case. I would normally not recommend using ich medicine because temperature/water change is so effective and very safe.

If you do have ich, I'd recommend keeping all fish in the tank and treating it with temperature. Normally temperature does wonders and you can use salt to help heal the wounds.

In my case the convict wasn't getting better when he should have been. I don't remember how long exactly I kept him in the tank, but it was clear I had to do something else other than treat with heat.

Also, treating one fish in a 10 gallon is way easier than multiple fish in a 90. Water changes get tiresome when you do them everyday or every other day.

The white spot on the neon tetra's tail is the right size for Ichthyophthirius, but if the spot has been there for 2 weeks it is not white spot, uness your water temperature is below 20C. Normally the white spot parasite drops off the fish after a couple of days in a tropical aquarium.

And if no new fish or plants have been added to the tank within a few weeks before this appeared, it is extremely unlikely to be white spot.

As others have mention, monitor the spot and if it changes pot new pictures. It could be a calcium growth in the fin, which sometimes happens to soft water fishes if they are kept in hard water, and it can happen to fish as they get older.

So it’s possible for ich to only be one spot?

Hello I just started up and cycled my old 30 gallon tank for my guppy’s and neon tetras everything was fine and going good guppies had fry and fish swimming and having a great life until one day I noticed on of the guppy’s and tetra had one single white spot on there fin just one so I can’t tell if it’s ich or not the spot on one of the guppy’s went away but the tetras is still there pls help.
Update: spot was completely gone I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing but hopefully it stays away

Yes, but as Colin said it is not likely ich if the spot remains after a couple of days. It is important to never jump to conclusions about something you see; many diseases/issues can have similar or identical symptoms in appearance. And any medication or chemical additive is going to impact the fish in the tank so such additives should not be used unless there is a fair degree of certainty as to the issue, and the additive is the best and safest for that issue.
