small fish yellow color with black stripes along length of body

does it swim in the middle of the tank. at the top or along the bottom mostly?
from what first sprang to mind it could be quite a few different ones.

Hi duke Welcome to the forum :D

If this fish is about 1 inch long and has a mouth like a little Bulldog it would be a Bumblebbe Goby...that's my guess :D

Lengthwise stripes would be more like Tanked said, a cichlid, yes? Aren't the goby's stripes around the belly, so to speak?

ok, you guys be serious. I think what you're describing is a zebra danio. If it swims near the top, kinda skinny and sometimes chases other fish, its a zebra danio.

Never seen a yellow zebra danio, mine always looked kinda bluish. :/
I was thinking cichlid. I see them at the fish store all the time. Maybe they are juvenile chipokee, maybe auratus, but they start out pretty small (inch or two) and are always in the tank with the other cichlids.

, to easily tell them apart from M. auratus, look at the tails. The M. auratus tail retains the body striping with half solid and half striped. The M. chipokae tail is all striped. They are often mislabeled in fish stores, sometimes mixed in a tank all labeled as one or the other.

CM's link should clear up whether or not it's a cichlid. What happened to the poster? Duke???

i think this prooves my point that it could be one of hundreds of fish probably and without more information there is little chance we can identify it a picture would e good but a description of its behavior and size would be sufficient.

Alia,
You've had BLUE zebra danios?!?!? All the ones I've seen are yellow with black stripes or black with yellow stripes.

Yes, my danios were bluish, not yellow. According to a couple of sites I've just visited, the males are yellow between the stripes and the females are silvery colored. And the stripes on mine were dark blue, not black. Perhaps I've had females, and you've had males.
Zebra Danio

Actually, i was choosing between them and leopard danios (they are yellow with black SPOTS not stripes) and i chose the leopards. oh well.

Actually, I thought it was kind of interesting that the males and females are different colors. I never realized it. :/

Some cichlids varieties have one sex blue and one yellow also, but I think they are all one color as juveniles. Also, the contrast is much stronger.

I think we lost our topic creator. :fun:
