Hello All, was given a small 25liter tank yesterday, complete with filter/heater, and three fish. Unknown to the Owner. I was instructed that they should be kept at 18degrees?

After looking about on the net, i have decided that they were 'White Skirt Tetra's'. When I brought them home the lady said they need to be seperate because they are very vicious fish, but now there home in a warmer tank, they seem to be okay? Is it okay to mix them with other fish do you think?

thats 6.6 usgal :S don't quote me on it but i believe they shouldnt even be in a tank that small

White Skirt Tetra are too big and active for a 5.5 gallon tank
How about replacing them with 5 Ember Tetra. Ember Tetras need their tank temperature to be around 26C

They probably need about 22C for the moment.

In other news, as mentioned above, they are schooling fish (so keep 6+) and that tank is too small for them..

I understand fully that the tank is too small, but it will be my quarantine tank once the fish are relocated. But the question stands at will they be terrertorial towards my Guppies/Platies

+1 nip at Guppies, at least until there are more of them.. might be ok with 10 Tetras, but can't be sure without trying.

Well ive got a large filter in the 25ltr tank, so they will have to stay in there for now, theyve been in there for a year and never had a problem yet, so ill have to find a new home for them.

Hmmm, white skirt tetras.. Could someone tell me if these are just color variants of the older black skirt tetras (which really old hobbyists like me remember being originally just "black tetras", lol) ...because if they are, then I certainly agree about the nipping. Black tetras were among the meanest fish you could put in your aquarium and if they were not in a minimum shoal of 6 or so and in with other fish I'm sure it would come out.

~~waterdrop~~

White Skirt Tetras are just a colour varient of the Black Widow Tetra/Black Skirt Tetra

Thanks carelovel, I think I've been told a few times.. I guess I just need to see a few to get it through my stubborn head
