the male was following it and going underneath with its mouth, is it trying to eat the babies because the person who gave me it said it would do that but i am not sure.

tis hard to tell from the pics as they arent that clear. her belly looks somewhat rounded but without clear pics i would have to say you will just have to wait. do you have a camera with a motion option available?

hi
your pics are a little blurry & hard to see but she certainly looks quite fat, i find that our mollies get a sort of boxy shape when they are about to drop, esp when you see them from the back. the male is just doing what male mollies always do when theres a female around - continually trying to mate with her even if shes already pregnant.
is the female in a breeding box?? leaving a pregnant mollie in one of those for too long will just stress her out & she may abort the babies or hold onto them for a lot longer, she also may eat her own babies if you leave her in the little breeding box with them . what other fish are in the tank with your mollies???
it might be better & less stressfull for the female if you leave her in the main tank until she has had the babies, then catch the babies and put them in the breeding box to be safe until they are bigger.( i use a little plastic cup as netting can harm them & its best not to take fry out of water if you can help it) to ensure the fry have a good chance can you put in some floating plants in your main tank? or just float some normal plants, gives the fry much needed cover & hiding places. if you do get fry & then move them to the breeding box its a good idea again to float some plants at the top of the box as it gives them shade from strong lighting. it can be a little tricky to catch the babies but just takes a little patience & you'll find quite a lot will survive in the main tank until you can get them. we have 3 newborn black mollies at the moment in our fry tank, they all survived 2 nights in with our greedy tetras & tiger barbs before i got them.theyre in there with 3 other baby black mollies that were born about a month ago - they also survived in the main tank for a couple of hours till i found them. you also dont want to be overrun with babies so letting mum give birth in the main tank allows nature to take its course so to say but you can still have the fun of raising a few babies - much easier to rehome than 50 ( we ended up with 50 swordie babies last year, very luckily we found a lfs who agreed to take them all in exchange for some plants)

any chance of a couple more piccies??? might help me try & see how pregnant your mollie is.
hope this helps a little

thanks i have had it in there since yesterday at 8.00pm i put it in there because it was going to blow(have the babies) should i take it out ? ur right about them surviving because i had some guppys and i caught 4 of them.

how many do they have roughly?
i will put some shells in i have plants as fell and a few hidding spaces
i'll go and take some more pics

Looks pregnant to me...but they can stay huge for a long time before actually having the babies...as millym said they go a really boxy square shape just before having them and you can sometimes see a dark gravity spot at the back...

It depends on the age and how many young they have had before...if it is the first lot it can be as little as 6 but can reach numbers of 20 - 30

I would leave it in the tank with the others so she is not stressed being on her own...when the little ones do eventually come and you have enough hiding spaces then enough should survive if you want to keep some of them

well i did tell my friend who gave it to me he said it would be about 30 i know the exact words
"ur gonna get like 30 babies"
"u sure" i said
"yep"

so it must be old

hi
i may be wrong but to me shes not big or 'square looking' enough for the birth to be imminent. id put her back in the main tank like you said. mollie fry should be ok with guppy fry if the guppies are still small. ( although i dont have experience with guppies at all) newborn mollie fry arent as small as you'd think our 5 day old ones were prob about 4-5mm when born & mollie fry are perfect teeny little minatures of the adult fish unlike some fish that look like a pair of eyes & a tail for a while ( our baby swordies just looked like this!!!) i'll see if i can get some new pics of our mollie fry for you, ive posted one in the topic 'fry pics' thats in this section of the forum but its not a brilliant shot.

bottom line take it out or keep it in?

thanks

i'll take it out]

not big or 'square looking' enough for the birth to be imminent. is she pregnant though?

Yip she definately looks pregnant from the last pictures....you can mix the babies in with the Guppy fry no probs.

She is not close to giving birth yet so there is not much point in moving her yet...wait til she get's that huge square box look then I would move her if you want to keep all the fry..it may still take a few weeks

i will keep a eye on it and when it become massive i will post it i give it about 2 weeks
