I just bought 135 us gallon tank today and i need help finding somewhere to buy all the equipment for it. all the lfs ive lloked at only carry items for tanks up to about 50 or 55 gallons. i live in vegas but am expecting to order stuff online. Any ideas would help out. I am at a loss.

for a tank that size you need to look for a filter that has a gph(gallons per hour) of over 400. in filtering any tank you need to turn the water of the tank over atleast three times an hour. you could look at a wet/dry system or a fluidized bed filter (fbf). i like the fbf myself and use it on my larger tank. i did have a wet/dry but unless you plan on having the tank drilled for the wet/dry it is more bother than it is worth. also you need to check the water level daily so as not to run the pump dry. you might see if an lfs close to you can special order a filter system for your tank. most can, just do not stock as they are not in demand as much as the smaller filters.

can also try drs foster and smith. they are online also. big al's does seem to have reasonable prices on equipment.

Another option is in-line pond filters, these come in all kinds of sizes and can have UV filters etc too, that would be the cheapest ways to have a big filter system. Practical too, particularly the in-line pond filters, you can add these too and have 2-3 etc to go really overkill. 2 pond pumps with bit LPH, running from one end of the tank, in-line filters above the tank and then coming back in at the opposite end would give a nice current too if you wanted to go for a river effect with reeds, proper swimming fish etc. You can replace the filter media in these in-line boxes with whatever you like.

Why are you digging up a thread thats over 4 yrs old ? You need to check the date of the thread when you are reading similiar topics. :)
