Hi everyone, this is my first post in this forum. I've grown tried of seeing my cichlids fight and am opting for a more peaceful aquarium to enjoy. I need suggestions on what types of tetras to get for my 125g aquarium.
I plan on getting either cardinal or neon tetras but I need another school of fish that won't eat plants (I learned my lesson after buying a school of buenos aires tetras for my planted tank). I kind of want to stick to a south american theme and plan on adding a few oto catfish to keep the algae under control, will the otoclinus bother/stress the tetras?

thanks to all that reply!

Otos won't stress or bother any other fish, but do be aware that they tend not to do well in newly set up aquariums.

How about green neons and ember tetras? Both species are very peaceful and quite small, so you could easily have a dozen of each eventually.

Edit; forgot to say; :hi: to the forum

thank you, The aquarium is well established so the otos should fair okay.

That's great; just remember to check their tummies are nice and rounded when you buy them, and not sunken looking; once they get to that stage it can be very difficult to pull them round; oh and the more you can have, the better; they're much more confident and likely to thrive in shoals of at least six, but the more the merrier. You can suppliment their food with blanched courgette, lettuce and other vegtoo :good:

Is your tank 125 litres or gallons? If it's gallons you will, of course, be able to have many more than two dozen tetras!

it's 125 gallons, how many tetras could I have if i had equal numbers of two species?

With 125 gallons, you could literally have hundreds of tetras. This would be my plan (just a suggestion)

25x Cardinal Tetras
25x Rummy-Nosed Tetras
15-20x Lemon Tetras
10x Otos
A few couples of appistos (Cockatoo Cichlids, Agassazi Cichlids, etc)
A bunch of other tetra schools of whatever you'd like

What no khulies?

I agree with Crossfire, except the lemon tetras, I prefer black phantoms. Just me though.

If you really just want two schools of tetras and ottos, 50 neons or cardinals, 50 of one of the others recommended, and 20 ottos.

Other tetras to consider would be, serpae, bentos/rosy, Xrays, pencil fish, pristella, red-eye, glow light, there are way more, but this should get you going.

And I've never had lemons, i just threw in random tetras i knew off the top of my head :good: Its all up to personal choice

Oh and this guy wanted a species only tank...guess what species I recommended :sly:

wow thanks for all the suggestions guys, I have alot to consider.
as of right now Im thinking 20 cardinals, 20 lemons, and 5 otos seeing as my budget is very tight.
it might be a little empty to look at but it's a start.

one final question, do lemon tetras eat plants?
