Hi all,
I have a trickle/sump filter on the back of my tank and it does not seem to be pulling enough water in for an even flow through the filter, its just coming out the sides at the exit point? I checked the cartridge, gave it a rinse and a shake in de-chlorinated water and put it back in, it seemed to work a little better for a day, but now its back to just coming out the sides. The filter is two months old and was cycled fishlessly, although my tank is now fully stocked.
I have two questions, first, how often should the cartridges really be changed? I've read many conflicting opinions. The cartridge makers say 1-4 weeks, and common opinion seems to say 2-4 weeks, and I've also read many who say to leave it as long as possible as it to carries beneficial bacteria. What is a good gauge to go by?
Second, what is the best and safest way to clean my bio-filter?
Thanks.
