Online seapets is very good for prices. I know you want a new tank but I got mine second hand as do a lot of people annd you can get some amazing bargains. Try ebay and search within so many miles of your area. I see tanks going well cheap already set up with everything.

I dunno what litre tank you want. I have this in the 60 litre. This place is free delivery and everything is included, the light the hood, the heater and filter:

Get a secondhand tank. It is so much cheaper and all ready to go.

I would never consider wasting money on a new one.

I bought a 55 gallon, hood , light, stand, filter system, heater, gravel, plants, power heads, and decorations for $50. Good price, nomatter how you look at it.

If you want a new one, find the cheapest price you can for everything you want online, print off the details, and go to your local fish store and see if they'll price match. Mine did, plus threw in a few more freebies like a background, gravel, etc to clinch the deal. Saves messing about arranging delivery times and so on, anyway. Plus, always good to support local, they may give you good fish deals in future ;)

Second hand may be cheaper and there are some fantastic deals out there, but if you haven't seen the tank full of water and the filter running, etc, you take a gamble on the quality of the seals etc, IMO.

If I bought a secondhand tank and was told there were no leaks, the filters works fine etc and I got home and found this was not the case – I would take it back and make them 'wear it'.

Get the biggest size tank you can afford, even if it means leave the filter etc out until next pay day, the bigger the easier to manage. on the long run your gonna wish you had a bigger tank as you might add more fish later etc..

Also, as the above said.. go for a second hand tank and check for leaks.. examine the seal, incase it does have a leak you can always repair it and you will save a fortune.. allowing you to get a bigger tank/better filter?, i bought a 55 gal/240litre tank for £45 with stand/lighting/hood and did the repair myself (reseal).. i am new to fish keeping and its my first aquarium but with a little bit of patience you can get quite far (fighting much temptation!).

if you do find a used aquarium that you are interested in- check for leaks, cracks/chips. if its just a leaking tank then resealing it all would cost a little under £15 with a few hours prep.also check to see if the stand is level if there is one. if you go down this route.. let me know, i'll send the links that i found very informative to me.

Either way.. get a tank with more surface area as opposed to a tall tank, this helps with aeration.

choosing a tank can be quite stressful, ive been there.. only last month!

This is what helped me choose my tank and i hope that it helps you decide too. good luck!
