Hey guys.

I've been needing to get a new aquarium for a long time now, and i've finally got around to doing so now. However, i have a couple of problems in deciding which tank i should get. My current fish tank is only around 22 litres (most of the litres are because it's a tall tank rather than a tank with a lot of floor space as well).

I made a list of possible tanks:

- The Interpret 40cm fish pod (48 litres).

- Aqua one Aquastart 500 (65 litres). This might be too heavy to fit on the table i have, i'm not sure.

- Aqua one Aquanano 40 (55 litres, but i don't really like the look of this one).

-rekord 600 by Juwel (65 litres)

- Arcadia Arc Tank II (60 litres). I don't really know much about this one.

I've already looked at aqua one and juwell. Juwells' aquariums are either too small or too big, however some of aqua one's aquariums seem to be okay in size. The only other brand i really know of is biorb, and i don't think i'll ever try their tanks because they're way too expensive and bowl shaped.

So does anybody have any suggestions or help as to what i should get? or if you even own some of the aquariums i stated and gave me feedback on what they are like, that would help too.

I'm looking for something which would be:

-Around 45-65 litres or 10-15 imperial gallons.

-No bigger than 60cm length by 44cm width because that's how big the surface of the table i can put a tank on is.

-Preferably less than or around £100.

Thanks for any help.

Okay, i went to my LPS today and found out that they don't seem to do the arcadia, so i guess that's out of the question.

I also don't really like the look of the aquanano now either. Looks as though the lid could come off too easily as well and probably break.

The interpret fish pod/box is a little too small, and it sounds as though it has other problems such as a bad filter and a problem with holes/dripping.

And the Aquastart 500, i haven't really heard anything much about this one, but it was priced at £107.99 at my LPS and since it comes with an under gravel filter rather than a filter on the side, since i want sand i'd have to get a different filter- not sure if it would be worth the price.

Until about a hour ago i was actually really interested in the juwell korral, however i've heard from reading a few posts on here that it's badly made and the filter may not be too good, and i want the tank to last at least for a few years.

I'm currently considering the rekord 600 by juwel now as well.

@ twingogeekeo

Really? it seems to me like it's got issues with the filter and a drip problem, as well as a few other issues people have been saying.

Scrap the idea of getting a small tank, and get the biggest you can afford :D
I started with a 30L biorb then two 2ft (60L), a 3ft- 100L, two fry tanks about 30/40L, now I have a 4ft/350L a fluval Roma 200L and my two fry tanks.
You can pick up a nice s/h tank for £100 ish you'd pay more for a pod in the lfs.

I went to a slightly less local aquatics/garden centre today, and i saw a 54 litre fish tank for a very reasonable £70 ish. Couldn't resist it so i bought it and it seems to be okay so far. Bit of a struggle to fit it on my table, but it should just fit.

Hopefully, everything in it will work.

It's a aquael classic 60cm tank, 54 litres (not the bow front version).

I've owned the 64 litre fishpod and the 120 litre fish pod. Never had any problems. I would never use an internal filter, especially the one that comes with Interpet fish tanks. It's not a bad filter but the pro's of an external canister style out weigh the cons for me, every time. The only issue I've had with the Fishpod range is their lighting system. You can only use their bulbs. Which at most is 30watts of energy (eg: 2 x 15w fluorescent bulbs by replacing the blue bulb with another white day one). So this is OK in the 64 litre and even the 48 litre versions, but when you get to the larger tank styles, it limits you to a low-tech set up where plants are concerned. This isn't a problem for me since I wanted to start out on a low tech set up anyway (my first planted tank) but if I wanted to buy a more advanced tank larger than 70 litres, I wouldn't buy the Fishpod range from Interpet again.

Have you had a look at a fluval Roma 90? 60cm wide and very well built
