im looking to get a center piece fish for my 35 gallon tank, something that would be kept singly like a male betta but something else to swim in the middle and generally be king of the tank.

my tank consits of gourami rams gobys tetras and bottom dwellers.

what single fish do you suggest something colourful, blue if possible

Well, a lot of the time, Gouramis and Rams are used as centerpiece fish. How many of each of those fish do you have in your tank?

Be more specific - what species of rams, 'bottom-dwellers', tetras and gobies do you have and how many of each. Also, what size tank is this?

35 gallon 2 yellow rams 2 df gourami 1m 1f 2honey gourami 1m 1f 3 peacock gobys 4 blue tetras 3 corys a bumble bee catfish and a ruby shark, various shrimp aswell. im looking for something like a neon blue rainbow fish but only have room for one really and that isnt really right

Well, if i may say so myself, the Rams should be enough of a centerpiece. As well, if you are just looking for a centerpiece to fill out your tank, don't do it. It's always better to understock. I also can't imagine rainbow fish being too happy on it's own. But that's just my guess, i really know nothing about them.

Edit: Even as it is now, following the 1" of fish per gallon rule, which does not even apply to some of the mildy aggressive fish you have, you are over-stocked by about 7" at adult size. I would get rid of the shark and the bumble bee catfish, or something else, but after checking out your fish, it came to 42.2" of full-grown fish. Sorry, but adding another fish is really not a good idea.

You realy don't need 'centerpiece' fish in that tank. Almost all will grow into big, colorful adults and the tank should look pretty full once they're mature. Also, you've kind of exceeded your stocking limmits already so shouldn't actualy add anything more. Concentrate on keeping the fish healthy and feeding them good foods so that they grow and fill out.

i just calculated my aquarium and its 39.896103896103895 gallons of water i estimated the 35 gallons, the honey gourami are moving to my 20 gallon approx when its cycled and the fish i have had in here for two years and the shark and bumble bee cat are nearly fully grown 6 and 5 inchs respectivly the peacock gobys and the shrimp are the only young fish about 4 months old and the corys are pandas significantly smaller than bronze or pepered. this is an established tank and therefore can slightly exceed the rule of inch to the gallon. i am not going to run out and buy fish on the wim anyway i was only interested to see whta my options were.

i just want to know if anyone knew of a peaceful 4 or smaller inches colourful/blue fish that lives as a sinngle not part of a group. and the rainbow was just to give a sort of picture ,i cant get rainbows as the need to be in a group of 5-8

The thing is, (no offesne), but you don't really have any options. Even as a 39 or 40 gallon tank, you are a bit over the limit, and by moving the gouramis you are right on the edge of overstocking. I wouldn't add any more fish, and thats not true; An established tank is no different in terms of how many maximum fish it can keep compared to a newly-cycled one. The other thing is, since you know you are on the brink of overstocking, and hopefully don't want to, you should realize that to be a real centerpiece fish it should be larger than the other, or really stick out from the rest. A centerpiece fish is really not an option, as you could count your shark a centerpiece fish.

what about changing some of the fish in your tank ie selling some,or,taking some back to the lfs???that way,you could get some more fish(your centre piece)and still not over stock your tank. i have changed my fish on numerous occasions.
