Nearly Cycled

On day 16 of my fishless cycle in my new 55 uk gallon tank, and it looks like my Nitrites have spiked
Hopefully by the end of the weekend Ill be transfering my fishes into there new home

The pictures shows Nitrite levels over the last 4 days (todays on the right)

Gunny, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the nitrite spike is the longest part of cycling and could easily take twice as long as the ammonia phase. Keep adding ammonia very time the ammonia level drops to zero to bring it back up to around 1.0. After I added my plants, my ammonia cycled in less than 48 hours. The nitrite immediately went off the chart and has been there for 7 days now. I can add ammonia bringing it back up to 1.0 and it is back to zero in less than 8 hours. The nitrite spike lasts forever though.

I'm still waiting on my 75 gallon to finally go down. With all the plants I have, I know I could go ahead and add fish but I will probably wait. It is nerve wracking though when youwant to see something swimming around other than a loose leaf from a plant.

Yeh I would much rather wait than risk harming my fish, had them for a while now and I want to keep it that way

Like you say though it is frustating having a big empty tank
