I have several Eheim Classics (though they are not really Classics as I bought them before they were classics - if you know what I mean) and one Eheim Pro (not a Pro II). The Pro is slightly quieter and certainly easier to maintain with its built in taps and quick release connectors. The main problem I find with external filters is sympathetic resonances with the aquarium cabinet causing a faint hummmm.

I found Aquatics Wharehouse to be cheapest though they sent me the wrong filter first time round - they swapped two digits in the model number.

Hey, Timmy, a local Lad then? Just up the road from myself.

I think I'll spend my money wisely and go for an Eheim. Just hope that the extra hundred quid is really worth it!

Have also found some insulating latex matting at work. Its about an inch thick, and shuts the rumble up real good. Just wish Juwel would have got it right by themselves, then I would'nt need an external at all! That powerhead is just sooooo noisy, its in the bin now! Have modified to suit.

Thanks for your help guys, its good to know that there are answers to my questions..
