Got back from my lecture today and finally solved the mystery of what is happening to our tank ornaments.

The last couple of weeks we've looked in the tank and the lightest of the ornaments, the lil shipwreck, has been moving. First it was a bit, then more, and before long after a few days it had moved about 3 or 4 inches away from the spot it started in.

Got back from my lecture to put the bubble curtain on and found a cluster of corys behind the shipwreck. Our albino cory, Bunny, was shovelling the gravel out of the way, whilst the others got behind it and were wiggling, pushing it out from the side of the tank.

I couldnt believe what I was seeing. All our corys are different species; only Doug and Penguin are both peppered cories, and I suppose Jack is the same species as Bunny, as he is a bronze and Bunny is an albino of the variety. But the others are all varied species and markings and they all seem to have clubbed together to move the ship to where they want it.

Has anyone else had this problem? I've heard oscars move around decorations, but never thought corys did. And what should we do about it? Just let them move it where they like (and risk casualties) or wedge it in so they can't shift it? Why are they so bothered about moving it?

ha ha cheeky little cories!

the only thing that would concern me is if it fell on them so if it's big enough to swuish and hurt them then yes anchor it down

 Do you feed live worms or anything? Cories will dig for food. I feed live black worms, and the Cories will push objects to get at the worms that have dug in under stuff. Some of my Cories get sore noses pushing things.

I've not had them move a ship 4" though. :hyper: We must hire them out as tug boats.

LOL yes!

They get a very varied diet. Peas, live food yesterday (daphnia), frozen special mix (which has everything frozen in) and flake food. I think they get the most out of everyone in the tank. No live worms though. They just dig an awful lot.

We had our suspicions that the corys were the ones moving the stuff, but I didnt believe it until I saw them at it.

I think they are after something that gets under the ship. They are keeping the tank clean: their second job after being cute and cheeky.
