I have a naso tang that is only eating brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and clyposese. I have a clip in the tank which I hang cabbage, and seaweed select. However my tang nor my dwarf angel has touched it ever. They look good, but I thought they needed veggies to stay healthy?

My regal tang never touched anything remotely veg like.

There are a load of different veggie foods, maybe try some different ones. They can be expensive though so if you have any friends who feed them to thier fish maybe you can get a little bit from them to try before you buy a pack.

As long as the fish is eating well, looks happy and doesn't look thin or ill then I wouldn't worry too much

Yeh none of my tangs touch any sea weed or veg they are perfectly healthy so I wouldn't worry.

Have you tried Nori or other algae from a local asian market?

no just items i can buy at the lfs. I will continue to try some different ideas and vegitation for the tang. The tang looks good, healthy, active, i just want to make sure its getting everything it needs for the long run.

chances are it's grazing on the algae in your tank as well as the foods you mentioned so i'm sure it is getting vegitation. in a nice big tank with plenty of LR there would be lots to graze on and if it prefers that to the veggies you put in then i don't think there's any harm in it.

Adult Naso are planktonivorous. However, since the majority of tangs are herbivorous, their vitality will wane in time if they are not fed algae. Do not assume that just because the animal seems to prefer meat that it can thrive on it.

When you say cabbage, do you mean from the garden kind of cabbage

If so I am not surpirse you Tang hasnt touched it, not a lot of cabbage floating around the sea

Try Nori :good:

got to say both my unicorn and sailfin tangs eat about a 6 inch by 2.5 section or nori every day, i have also got my two clowns fedding on it, i think i put it down to not feeding meat that much. i would say that i feed meat once every two day and run a no food day every 5 day, i find that this helps keep the tank nice and clean, i will always mix up the gravle on a none food day , and they alway seem to find bits too eat.

i must say that it seems to work for me, and to get clown fish to feed off the green stuff seems for most people to be hard work :D
