Hi guys, really thinking about setting up a nice nano tank (20L & under) for my desk @ work, ive been looking at the fluval spec, arcadia arc, fluval flora & EBI and im really stumped as which one offers the best value, im not to fussed about keeping fish in it, rather some nice shrimp!, im basically just wanting some advice from people that have them or have had them!

What are they like for growing undemanding plants!, do they need a heater for shrimp only!, whats the best value for money ect ect!

any comments and advise would be really really appriciated! :D

Have a look in the planted forum, journals, lots of info therem L_Plates has a really good one running at the moment.

I've got a Spec going with a few plants, rock and wood. Cant honestly say its the most exciting tank in the world though!

Hi Tizer, yeah ive read your thread about the spec yesterday, and it fueled my ambition even more for one of these lil tanks!, its just something i want to enjoy as im at my desk working, my main 200L tank is in the dining room and doesnt get viewed alot, apart from tea time!, i'll have a look at 'L_plates' thread and see whats cracking off :)

How is your spec coming along?, whats the lighting like for plants?

I thought my ears where burning ;)

The nano tanks are great fun Paul. As tizer said i have a Journal in the planted tank area of the forum at the moment. Link in my sig, also there are a few other members with some nano's on the go.

Don't forget to start a journal on your tank :)

All the best, LP

Things seem ok at the moment, i think i'm two weeks into it now and nothing has started to melt/rot yet. I keep forgetting to dose liquid co2 though. bah keeping my eyes on ebay for a 30cm cube, the spec is quite small in all honesty. I know thats the idea! But its quite fiddly to work with .

Yeah i was thinking the SPEC was too small at 7litres! ive got in mind something around 15-20litres mind you..... the fluval EBI looks pretty cool and being a cube looks alot smaller than the advertised 30L

since they failed to mention, i have a journal going on mine as well :p link in sig :D

CrazyAirborne ive seen yours to mate :) i think ive browsed everyones! lol

But can anybody recommend stocking for this size of tank?

Not 100% sure on the amount of shrimp stock to be completely honest.

In my 27 litre i have 10 CRS to start but plan on another 10 within a few weeks then see if they breed. I would be happy with 30-40 in the tank max i think.

Of course that would not be all adults, it would be a mix of adults and shrimplets.

I was thinking of having some RCS (mix of adults and shrimplets if breeding of course) and maybe an African Dwarf Frog?

I saw them today in my local MA. They look very smart. I like the fact that the filter and heater are hidden away and the twin colour LED lighting looks fab. Only downsides are the lack of lid and the fact that it is only available in 15l. If they did a 25l I would have bought one...

the one that i saw had a clip on plexiglass lid! .... i think its an amazing little tank!...thinking some pygmy corys and some shrimp?..would that work??

The ones I saw just had the light unit on top. If it had a proper lid as well than that is much better to stop anything jumping out. Not sure if it would be big enough for Pygmys. They prefer groups of at least 6 and maybe more. Shrimp would work well though.

15l is only about 3 gallons, so it's too small for any of the shoaling fish. Might be ok for a betta, but I'd say shrimp only, tbh.
