Name That Plec

hi just took a plec off someone who wasnt looking after their fish
so what i need you good ppl to do is name it for me please
so its about 8" long got a high dorsal and is speckled lol if you could just give me a few names i can google it would be most appreciated as i cant put up pics

I'd guess its either

Sailfin? P.Gibbiceps
Gold dot P.Joselimaianus

thanx mate its a sailfin but its fins are shredded beyond belief ive had to put him in a 3ft tank will he be ok in there for now

A 3ft would suffice short term provided you have a lot of filtration, Gibbiceps are extremely messy plecs and are the biggest commonly sold species capable of sizes upto 22"
Regular water changes will help to heal the fins in no time

hes pretty much the only fish in the tank its a well cycled fluval4+ is that ok? his old tank didnt have a filter at all thanx for your help

also there is loads of bog wood and swoeds in their as well i dont mind if he uproots them though

I'd say water changes are going to be critical really, in an ideal world tank size and filtration should be doubled but with regular water changes, gravel cleaning and monitoring the water stats it is doable and is obviously much better than the conditions he was in before.

Your only problem is going to be when the fish starts hitting 12-14" which is easily doable for this species even if the fish has been stunted.
