My fiance and i finally picked up my new Kitten yesterday! a friend of ours has a cat that had kittens and it was time for them to go to a new home, so we got the pick of the litter - a little tortie and white female, with a beautiful placid nature. she follows me every where, lol she is sleeping on the desk next to me right now. when i leave the room with out her she cries - it was her fist night away from her mum, brothers and sisters after all. but the main reason for my post, is that since we got her she has gone to the bathroom only once, just a wee. but other than that nothing, is this normal? we have both had cats before n they have all had theyr specific time in the day where they visit the bathroom for a #2 - but Nala hasnt, she is very healthy, eats fine keeps her fluids up always a moist nose, vet check and everything but no poop. is this normal? is she ok? or is it just the new surroundings?

I worked for a cat shelter for three years. It's really quite normal for a cat or kitten to hold off pooing for up to three days until they settle in and get comfortable. If it's longer than that, you should contact the vet as she may have stressed herself into being constipated. It's a really common call that I got, so I gather it happens a lot.

You might also want to check around to make sure she hasn't gone somewhere else by mistake. Anything she can dig in she may confuse for a potty, expecially if she's really young and she's on the other side of the house from a litterbox. Midnight visits to the box sometimes don't happen when they are young. (My Tosh was using a towel in my room for about two days before I smelt it and realized what happened - at two months and having just been fixed, she couldn't make it to the box in the basement when she was sleeping with me at night, so used the best thing she could reach. After that I carried her to the litterbox before bed and in the morning and it didn't happen again. ) Fabrics, furniture, and rugs are the most common places for kittens to go if they're not using the box.

Congrats on the new member!

well she hasnt used the litter box it has been on the floor every time (when she pees) i have been rubing her nose it n then in the litter box as i have been told to do that. ( all my other cats i havnt had ne problems with) lucky for me its been on the tiles. she is good with everything else that my other cats havnt been, bathing n car rides etc, just having trouble with the whole bathroom thing. she hasnt gone ne where else as she is either on my lap or in her room. any other advise for toilet training? also when she is doin a wee she squats like a frog legs very low to the ground so9 she gets it all over her back legs, is there any reason why she is doing this?

The reason she is getting her legs wet is because they hold themselves close to the litter or ground when they urinate and if she is weeing on the tiles it has no place to run off so her fur is absorbing it. Try putting different trays around with different kinds of litter in. Are u using the same litter that she was trained on? Don't rub her nose in , that is the worst thing u can do. IS she the only cat you have at the moment?

she is the only cat i have at the moment. i am using the same litter she is used to. she was going in the same spot all the time so i moved the litter tray there but she hasnt gone since.

Absorb her urine with a paper towel and chuck it in the tray and leave it if she poos , put that in as well. It's odd that she was using the tray and has suddenly stopped. It could be the move and once she settles in she may stop if not , I would get her a check up at the vets just to make sure and see what they recommend.

well i been watching her all arvo for when she does the squat thing. when she did it i picked her up n took her to the tray took a few goes goin back n forth but finally she peed in the box! she got a big cuddle and a treat - it will be more of this but hopefully she keeps it up. it is odd behavior - as i said i have never had this trouble with any of my cats, but as i also pointed out she is very different to any cat i have owned - let alone heard of.

thank you for all your help. pics should be up soon!

more good news - i just found another little present (#2) and it was in the litter box! she may have just been nervous in new surroundings.

IS she a particular breed or a moggie? My exotic short hair did this and it drove me nuts until I got it stopped

just a moggie. was a friends cat that was due to go in to be desexed - got out and got pregnant just before it was to go in, they are 2 months old n the mum was starting to get really sick of them so t was time to find new homes. i was originally looking at getting a puppy as i have always had cats but as soon as i saw her i was in love. and she has a gorgouse placid but playful nature to go with it. the cat that got pregnant is goin in to be fixed tomorrow and unfortunately the other kittens are goin to the RSPCA but i understand why he is doing this and it is best for the other kittens atm. i did try to get one of her brothers - who isnt as friendly n i think will have a harder time getting a home but i just dont have the room for two kittens atm - little nala is a big enough handful as it is lol but she is gorgeous.

HAHAHAHA - that is gogouse! very funny. took miss home to my mums to meet my other cat (thats where she live, loves my mum more than me so she stayed) my other cat is naturaly a big cat - nala would be the size of her head - there was a few hisses n snarling but other than that they were fine. the pictures came out alot darker than what i thought, they dont do her justice at all.
