Please please please make sure your rabbits are vaccinated for this awful disease. I work in a veterinary hospital and we have had to euthanase at least 50 rabbits in the last couple of months. Its an awful thing to hav to do and upsetting because its preventable with vaccination. I have seen so many tears overs the past few months please dont let it be yours Kate x x

Sorry fish people i thought i put this in the general pets section.........dont know how to delete........not put up many threads and already in trouble....

I leave in a rural village and I've seen a huge rise in myxi in the wild rabbit population recently. Poor lil bunnies. thanks for the warning

I have to agree,I live out in the sticks and myxi is ripe here at the moment.I have heard of 3 people who have lost pet rabbits in the last 2 weeks

Yeah walking down my friends road which has a bout 3 or 4 cars a day down it so they can't be run over and saw 16 dead rabbits. They wern't shot. Definitley myxo.

Just as a follow on warning...

One of my brother-in-law's rabbits has just been diagnosed as having Myxomatosis... and it was vacinated :(

However - there is 2 types of it now aparently and the type that vacinated rabbits can get is actually treatable... Its a laborious process with regular bathing and treating of sores and things - not nice...

BUT dont let the vet tell you they have to be put down if its caught early, and they are insured then Its worth the effort.

I shoot wild rabbits for farmers and tbh there is more and more we shoot have myxmatosis which means the disease is widley spread as you can not control where wild rabbits go the wifes pet rabbit should be ok we hope

cheers dane

the spread in myxomatosis is due to the wet summer we had. The midges that carry the disease have bred load sos are devastating the rabbit population.
