Mystery Fish I Caught

For the love of...

This is NOT a mudskipper. The eyes are too low on the head, not to mention the fact that the guy caught it underwater, and it's staying in his hand.

Location would REALLY help us here.

The fish in question is a Shanny. a common bottom dwelling fish around the shores of the UK. they don't get that much bigger than the one you are holding. The BIG fish in the photo is a wolf catfish. a totally different species.

the picture SHANNY thats it!
yes i caught them in cornwall with some other cool stuff. even a golden coloured crab.

sorry if i came across as sounding keeping fish in aquairums is cruel, because it isnt, its just the only available tank i have is small and i wouldnt take that poor fish from its ideal environment and place it in a small tank and place unnecassary stress upon it.
it was a lovely fish though, if it helps, its pectorals were very strong and it could walk across land

yeah, very sharp little teeth and powerful jaws too!!! give a nice little fight when using light fishing gear.

pinkdolphin, when i went to scarborough i caught millions of these with a crabline off of the dock thing when the tide was in!
ive always thought they grew massive

I get where you're coming from. I would love to find one of these, or some sort of rockpool fish when I'm in the Caribbean.
