last night i noticed 1 of my bala sharks was covered in white little dots. i put in some stuff for white spot disease and i was supposed to add 5ml/40L. i put only 5 ml in the tank and the whole tank turned blue. this morning when i woke up the OTHER bala shark was dead and this arvo i found 1 angel dead. i did a 30% water change to clean the water and now the original bala shark is moving very slowly with even more spots and its not eating. Also another angelfish is showing some white spots. also in the tank are 2 bristle noses, 2 other catfish fish(which all seem to be fine), 1 angel fish and 1 bala shark.

it sounds like you've got a severe case of ick that u didn't catch in time. depending on your fish, the rest could live, some could die, or all could die. the water only turned blue b/c of the meds. it turns the water blue, it's not something bad happening.
HTH

But how can you catch it when it's in the free swimming stages?

you have to keep medicating the tank until there is no more ick, and for a few days later.

all the infected fish have died and the other fish still look ok. how long do i have to treat this for?? and how did my fish get this disease?? is it ok if i buy more fish or do i have 2 wait a while before the disease goes away??

also is there any colourful fish that are hardy and easy to take care of??

Thanks

Can I recommend something to you?

Please continue treatment, even for the next couple of weeks, because you won't know if the parasite is still in the water, substrate, filter, plants etc. Also, try and medicate/disinfect all the other utensils you use.

Never think that the parasite has gone, even though the other fishes 'look' fine.

At least then, you'll have more money in which to research for the fishes you want.

Good luck. :)

from what i know, ick is caused by different temperatures (cold) in the water. when you do water changes, make sure the temperature is within 2-3 degrees of your tank. if it is colder, you are chancing your fish to ick.
