Hello,

I have recently just purchased 4 marbled hatchetfish.
I had the fish now just over 2 weeks, and they are eating
and swimming normally.

However, i have noticed that there are tiny air bubbles on the
the fins and tails. I have read on other posts on this forum that tiny bubbles on the fish
could be an early sign of white spot.

I have a number of tetras in the tank which don't seem to be affected. There is
just one other with tiny air bubbles and a neon with one single bubble on its fin.

I was wondering if anyone could confirm my fears or weather i am just worrying...

If it is white spot how would i treat it, as i have snails and shrimps too?

Thank you for your time in reading my post.

does you have an air pump in the tank or a lot of water agitation?

Hello,

I have just the air going into the filter, and the filter which is giving off some air bubbles,
but i was told by the manufacture this is common and will settle. My Rainbow fish seem to like
swimming against the bubbles which is a little strange, swimming frantically above and below the
outlet...is this normal behaviour?

Could this be simply just the air bubbles attaching themselves to the fish...?

The tank has been running about 2/3 months.

thank you for the quick reply

no problem.

i personally wouldnt worry as my cichlids get covered in air bubbles a lot and once the bubbles slow/turn off their bubble slowly go.

you might find you have air entering the filter somewhere and it will cause air bubble but it shud fade if not, show us a picture of tank and we may notice a air fault.

the rainbows are happy they like fast flowing currents to swim against, they do this is the wild so dont worry about them, u will find they will do it for hours but will be fine.

i always say so long as they fish eat and they dont appear to be gasping for air then they are healthy unless you see anything obvious.

I was reading about filters on the forums where would you personally locate yours. I am going to add a picture of the tank asap.
I am looking for hide away spots and decorations for the fish, if you have any suggestions. I am trying to go for the more
natural(organic) look/feel. I tried to get stones from natural fish supplier, all the plants are live, with help a plant nursery.
However, they are growing some what wild lol.

Any how here is a picture of the tank, there seems to be a hell of alot of bubbles on top of the surface now you have mentioned
it.

I will check the fitting of the filter and see if it settles, thank you for your advice... How long have you been a fish keeper?
It is becoming like an obsession. The only problem i seem to have, is the conflicting advice with pet stores/shops and experts.

I completely value this forum as there so many true advice

NB

Tank 1 is the picture of the tank itself, there are numerous bubbles on the surface of the tank,

Filter : has not come out to well, but its seems to be spitting air,

thank you for your time

in all honesty that looks like Ich and not just bubbles from the filter (or from a waterchange).
any signs of the fish flicking or rubbing against things in the tank? do the spots look like grains of salt sprinkled on the fish?
id up the temp and get an ich treatment that does not contain copper (for the shrimp/snails sake).
good luck with them
cheers

Hello,

Well I guess on a positive note it better to get these things sorted as quickly as possible.
There is no flicking or rubbing against the tank, There is no unusual behaviour at all,
they are all eating well, It doesn't really look very grainy. Its very flat in that makes any sense
where grains are more raised. All the hatchets have the spots in exactly the same place on their
tails and fins but not on the body. Is this common for ICH? I am going to check out some later feeds
from Ich as i know the forum has a section for tropical diseases.

Would you suggest upping the temperature to 30? will it will resolve on its own?

Any how sorry about the millions of questions I will check out the tropical disease section.

Thanks for your time People its appreciated

Turn aeration down.

Keep looking for signs of flicking and rubbing, scraping off objects in the tank, darting, erratic swimming, laboured breathing, excess mucas or slime.

Any bubbles beneath the skin.

Bubbles on fish can be to much aeration, bacterial, parasites, lymthocystis.
Also make sure the nothing inside the bubbles.

Are the bubbles white or transparant.

Hello,

Bubbles are transparent, a few have gone from the hatchet but now the rainbow has a couple on the tail.
There is no slim, mucus, scratching, or rubbing.

The Rainbow fish have become rather active with the filter from previous posts however i was told that's
normal instinctual behaviour....

I had a fish(Phantom Tetra) death last night, but i took him out when I realised there was something wrong, he went all
floppy, and nose diving backwards and forwards, his colour completely faded and he passed away.

I did a water change for any the nitrates to be on the safe side. I hope i did the right thing, by removing him before he passed.

Thank you for you time

All I can suggest really is decreasing aeration in the tank, to see if the bubbles disappear on the fins.

Keep a look out for parasite signs, and bubbles beneath the skin.

Thank you for all the input i appreciate your advice and opinions. However, i now believe it is some sort of disease
ie white spot, as its spread all over the hatchet's bodies. One of the Phantoms has got a similar pattern, there is
still no scratching or strange behaviour.

What would you suggest doing? Is it better to raise the temperature of the tank and take out the shrimps and snails.
Or should i quarantine the fish affected, with regular water changes, i am just worried about the contamination of
the spread of whatever it is....

I am just going out to buy a second tank with a filter....

thank you for the advice again

Weird.

If you do take the whitepsot route. Try half dose as some of the fish might not tolerate the full dose.I think I would just medicate the whole tank.

Would of expected to see some signs of flicking and rubbing.
But bubbles on fish can be parasites.
Get a magifying glass and take a closer look.
