Finally my Rena Xp3 arrived from ebay today :D so I spent all afternoon changing over filters I can finally get rid of the All ponds solutions pile of rubbish :yahoo:

It's already looks much better in there but I did have a bit of a leak at first from between the motor head and the canister but it seems to be alright now. Do you think this would have been because the filter was not used for a while so the main seal o ring did not seal properly ?

Anyway I'm happy with the rena xp and so are my fish :fish: so I recommend it :good:

That's good but I'm interested know why you think the APS filters are a pile of rubbish?

I did the exact opposite to you because the main seal leaked so bad it flooded the living room. I had no end of trouble with my xp3, the quick release is a fragile piece of kit so be careful with that. both are common faults

I purchase a APS filter new in September and yes it did do the job and keep the water good but cleaning the filter was a nightmare the baskets were so tight in the canister I broke 2 of the handles trying to get the baskets out I also had one of the baskets break whilst trying to get them out.
Emailed APS to see if they had any suggestions on getting the baskets out and if they could send me 2 free handles as I only had the filter a couple of months but they wasn't interested in replacing them and said Thanks for your message – I would suggest using the hole in one corner to simply pull the basket out. The handles can be quite fiddly sometimes. Using a hole What hole ? I shouldn't have to do that useless customer service

Lol, the answer from customer services is quite funny! Haha, use the hole. What a prat. I have a fluval and apart from me installing the seal wrong when brand new I have had no problems with it at all. Definitely recommend them to any one. I bought a little powered from aps which came with a small sponge filter too, really nice bit of kit which added some great surface movement to my tank. It is.currently running a small 30 litre tank housing some krib fry.
