now are my wild caught red bellies considered to be super reds, although at the store they did not say super reds on the tag but i came on the internet and it said wild caught red bellies are super reds? i dont know whats going on and just want to know if wild rb are more red and what can i feed them to bring out there color more

Hi mate mine are wild and i have always said they are super reds, but saying that my mate has some that are just as red!! one thing that we do is befor a meal i drop in some tetra colour boost fish flakes (They dont seem to mine eating them) then give them some salmon fillet! within a few days you will start to notice the red bellies coming out alot more :)

so salmon fillet brings out the red

Super reds are only a name given to them because of the intense red colour of wild caught fish.Once they get bigger they lose the redness and just look like tank normal bred reds.

i find it helps yes or if there big try salmon steak make sure its really fresh tho :)

If you want really red bellies try and get them on hikari gold pellets, their excellent for colour and growth.

what size tank do they need? for a pair of RB's?

I'd say a powerhead would be good for most rbp's.

As for a tank size, don't keep just a pair. You will end up with one beaten up piranha or none at all. An 80g or so should be fine for three. The bigger the better though.

Try and get 4, this allows aggression to be spread out and they are shoaling fish at the end of the day, you wouldnt have 2 neons would you?

a 75 us gallon or standard 4x2x2 foot tank would house 4 quite happily for life.
