My Trip To A Wholesalers & Red Crystal Shrimp

They are available in the UK and there are 4 Stores i know that sell them. However - most of them are fairly low (or lowest) grade. And that's the "problem" with breeding CRS. A very very small percentage will be semi good grade and even less of that a good grade. The vast majority will be classed as low grade. Hence the high price of the high grade.

It's not a case of breeding high grade shrimp and getting high grade offspring I'm afraid :(

Ive always kept my eye out for them in LFS around here but have never seen them. I have asked a few times in the past if they can order them in but most places have never even heard of them.

Bloo your obviously living in the right place to have seen them in 4 stores!! :)

I only took 15 from the wholesalers, I will hopefully be collecting them tonight so I can get some better pictures of them and try and determine grade. (May need your opinions here Bloo).

I can hopefully order some more from the wholesalers but I am currently looking for the safest way to be able to send them as ive already received a few PM's about them!! Another member of TFF is currently looking into Courier prices for me as I am still a little reluctant to send them using Royal Mail Special Delivary. But we'll see!!

The other downfall is that these were'nt the cheapest of shrimp! 3.5 times the price of cherries at trade price!!!! :/

If you are interested drop me a PM and if I can get something sorted ill let people know. No promises though im afraid!!

Where can you get them?

TBH the grade doesn't really bother me they just look interesting

Cheers

If you're not bothered about grading - you might as well go for some Red Cherries then. Easier to get and cheaper. Because some low grade CRS can have very faint or almost no white markings - so why bother ?

Ah now - seen I have personally only in one - and that is Wholesale Tropicals where they are £2.95 each (I think) and at a guess grade B at best for some. Others lower at grade C. The other place I know of is Erdington Aquatics in Birmingham - they do shipping and charge £15 with TNT.
Now links for the other two I have on my other pc again and can't remember off hand who they are. Neither of them had current stock but have stocked in the past and will stock again.
Also worth trying is the Goldfish Bowl - they have a new shrimp section I believe.

I agree, with you there Bloo, if your not worried about grading then you may as well go for cherries.

Sorry, ive been on this forum for a little while now and still unsure how you quote certain paragraphs!! - Help anyone!!?

£2.95 is a very good price for them, thats almost what they cost straight from the wholesalers and I thought the wholesalers price was good, especially looking at some of the previous links you have provided. I suppose this may have something to do with the grading of them!? Maybe they are good!? We'll find out soon!!

It was TNT that someone else suggested for delivary & will look into that later. Problem is a lot of these larger companies I expect will get discount!

To quote - just click on the quote button (from whichever post you want to quite from - or several even) and then hit reply at the very bottom of the thread. You can they delete the bits you don't want to quote - and just add your bit after the [ / q u o t e ]

Here are some of the ones I had :(

Thanks Bloo, was just unsure how to quote certain sentences etc! Can you just write [ / quote ] ??

So what grade would you say those were as they dont have very large white patches, very nice though!!
:D

I don't think mine were any better than a grade B - so pretty low I guess. Probably hence the price. But not bad looking. Just a shame they all pegged it ! :X

Ps: when you quote - don't quite the pictures as well ;) (just just delete all the IMG links in the quote)

Well they were such good pictures Bloo I thought id make everyone look at them twice

No problem, makes sense really!!

Right I think im gonna go pick them up now, want to start doing some close inspections and try and get an idea of grade, will hopefully post some pics later.

Think I will go for some cherry's thinking about it but from where?
The last time I went to the Goldfish bowl the quality of the shrimp section was very poor but unless anyone knows of anywhere else guess it will have to be.

Roughly how much should I expect to pay for six roughly as well?
