My Three Oscars :d

and ferris i have read in many places that 75 gallon will be just fine for one oscar *not being rude or anything sorry if im coming off that way*

You're not being rude at all m8, i was agreeing with you!

if you are going to feed your oscars worms from the garden, i wouldn't bother, they could of come in contact with chemicals, and you don't want anything to happen to them do you :/
what you should do, is fill a bucket with soil go down to a local fish tackle shop and buy some live worms, they wont cost you much, then just chuck them in your bucket, they should reproduce in a few weeks and they wont have anything wrong with them, so they would be great for your oscars.

so you know i had 2 sickly 1" oscars like your smallest one, and well about 3 months later ( now ) they are both about 8" now, they grow VERY fast do its lucky you got rid of the other two

just being curious, but what dimensions are your 125 tank? I have 1 Oscar, roughtly 10-11" in a 6 x 2 x 2, and she does look a little penned in when turning. Obviously she can do it, but she has to slow down to do so...

Sorry mate but you think your 6x2x2 is a little cramped for your 11" Oscar? I find that very hard to belive i have 3x 12" Oscars in my 6x2x2 and i have no problems with that, There is a general rule of thumb when trying to house Oscars and it go's like this:

1x Oscar = 75gal
2x Oscars = 100gal
3x Oscars = 125gal
4x Oscars = 150gal

Bare in mind this is the bare minimum for an Oscar/Oscars more is always better that is why i can't belive you when you say your oscar is a little cramped when turning round -_- Plus if you think thats cramped wait until your redtail catfish grows there monsters they can grow to 4feet long and thats in a home aquarium and they grow fat too that is a problem fish ! he'll just eat your Oscar and everything else in your tank.

everything is fine dont worry all

i have one oscar now 1" and cycling right now is my 75 i have a picture but its not the set up that i have thats my gf's old set up with her mbuna's

everyone can chill out about their diet because i have lots of variety, a worm was just a question not something im going to run out right now and get :)

my smallest is actually very plump i will try and get a better picture :)

here is the old set up of the 75 this is a really bad pic doesn't quite show the whole tank or even how wide it is

1x Oscar = 75gal
2x Oscars = 100gal
3x Oscars = 125gal
4x Oscars = 150gal

not saying your wrong but I heard it was more like this

1x Oscar = 75gal
2x Oscars = 125gal
3x Oscars = 150gal
4x Oscars = 200-250gal

Bigger is better i always agree with that but what i gave you was the minimum size for oscars to live in comfortably, i know through experience and by other peoples experiences if your still not sure do some searching around on the web you'll find out check this site out where i'm a moderator on, this is the SA & CA Cichlids forum LOOK!

DanDan,

She's happy enough in the 6x2x2.. i just get the feeling she'd be more comfortable in a wider tank. She swims up the length at a good speed, then has to slow down to turn round in the width. I guess in comparison, it would be like doing circuits in a 30ft x 6ft hallway, plenty of room to sprint up and down, but need to be careful turning...

As for the redtail.. the growth rate is comparitively slow, so it aint gonna be a problem for a while yet, and when it does present itself as a problem, there is 2 public aquariums within an hour, so i should be able to organise a new home easy enough. And to be fair, the redtail has shown no predatory traits at all, it's quite happy with mince meat, and prawns - for now at least.
