this is my second biggest in the tank, about 2.5 inches, an albino *most dominante around the tank, eats last, if feeder fish are in the tank he always goes for the biggest one, he likes the caves but so does my sailfin pleco who chases him away :) * meet elmo!

and last but not least this is the smallest about 1" and he is a trooper, the first oscar of them all
he is the cutest, the funniest, and the first one to chase every feeder fish he can around the tank, he is too small to eat feeder fish, so he chases them, when they stop running and stay still, he chases another one

meet oscar the grouch

thats all *until they get moved to the 75 gallon when they outgrow that tank*

just being curious, but what dimensions are your 125 tank? I have 1 Oscar, roughtly 10-11" in a 6 x 2 x 2, and she does look a little penned in when turning. Obviously she can do it, but she has to slow down to do so...

What are the dimensions of the tank they are in? Why isn't the 75g set up for them?

What else are you feeding them? Feeder fish are about the worst diet you could use.

haha LMFAO my 2 oscars were call cookie monster and elmo and cookie monster was the same type as yours (a red oscar), but yeah a 75g is only just enough room for one oscar, and a 125 is "ok" for 3 but a 6x2x2 is best for 3 oscars, and you need to up grade and FAST :good:

the dimensions of my tank i can't give you anymore

i had to get rid of cookie monster and elmo :(

my gf decided to use the 125 for her mbuna tank

i have 2 75's :(

so i will just be keeping my smallest and soon *within 2 weeks* set up my 75 with some clown loaches or something kool looking

1 75 gallon is alright for 1 oscar. Not 2.

Unless I misunderstood your post

EDIT: Looks like I misunderstood, :D, nice to know that you aren't one of the people who just ignores everyone d:D

yes you misunder stood

im only keeping one :) sorry about that

and i also feed them pellets and tropical flake food

i have only ever tried feeder fish once

try prawns, peas, sweetcorn, flies, garden worms, woodlice, grasshoppers, algae wafers! I'd recommend tetra doromin also, but it is a little pricey when buying for a fully grown Oscar's appetite, most other cichlid sticks will be fine, but my oscar prefers doromin - more evidence that it's female, very piccy!
Only feed peas once a week at most tho, they are good for the digestion, and aid constipation, but too many has the reverse effect - not pleasant. Remember tho, an Oscar is an omnivore, much like us, eating the same thing all the time is not good for us, nor is it for them, a varied diet is a must.

Oscars, and indeed almost all predatory fish, don't need feeder fish to eat. Most will take food that is already dead, if they are looked after, and fed in reasonable proportions.

I think the minimum tank size i would keep a single Oscar in is something like the Juwel Rio 300, which is around 80 US gal so your 75 should be just about OK.

thanks for that everyone *realised i was walking into something that could have been bad :D *

umm i have a few questions for max

i have many diffrent types of foods BUT

how do you feed an oscar a garden worm? easy to catch and not expensive at all :)

just wondering live? cut up? how?

and ferris i have read in many places that 75 gallon will be just fine for one oscar *not being rude or anything sorry if im coming off that way*

depends on size of worm compared to the size of the Oscar really, if it's too big (the oscar wont think it is), better to chop it up a bit. But generally, just dig it up, rinse it off, and chuck it in!
You get to know whats too big and whats not for an oscar, sounds odd, but really, you do. It won't be long that you will have to cut them up anyways, the suprisingly large mouth combined with the suprisingly fast groth rate means it will be eating whole worms in no time.

I'm sorry but even a baby oscar will not last 2 weeks then cycling time in that tiny tank you've shown. They all look poorly and very emaciated, and earthworms aren't going to sort that, they need a good varied diet, including something along the lines of Tetra Doromin or smaller cichlid pellets until he/she can handle Doromin/similar. I would recommend returning him/her to the LFS until you have suitable accomodation all ready for such a demanding and large species.
