thanks ladds! going away next saturday for a week and them its fish time!!! mite go down the sunday when im back and get some fish! BN plec's be ok to go in first? or get my rainbow cichlids?

I would favor starting with the rainbows rather than the BNPs.

make sure the tank is still getting ammonia while you are away, otherwise the bacteria will die

I would say yes but depending on their size you may go into a mini cycle, as I did after letting you have the media.

Just be prepared to start daily water changes again until your media catches up with the bio load. It may be better to wait until after your holiday though.

how long is the holiday and how are u gonna keep the filter bacteria alive while ur gone. I would suggest stocking right now. They'll be ok for ur holiday and they will provide the ammonia for the filter
