My successful female betta tank

Thanks for sharing, Sorrell! I'm converting my ten gallon to a female betta tank in a month or two, so it's great to hear what you've done to make yours successful. :)

Hehe, I've been noticing a ton of people making female betta tanks on here recently. It's great. I just started one too. :D

i just thought id share my noob experiences with female betta tanks..

when i keep small #s together they fight a lot...

i had i think 4 in a 10g tank.. lots of fighting... when i had 8 in there, nobody fought at all really... it was kinda odd..... not a lot of places to hide either which is weird...

but yea.. female betta tanks are wicked... females are almost as cool as males :D

sorrel do u have any female plakats to breed with them males?

lol that makes me wanna start them, when my trop fish wear away and my pleco grows into a new tank ill put it in there, both genders are so pretty and fiesty hehe so fun to look at them go try to fight at your face on the other side of the glass bowl

but that will be only when ive grown out of my newbie stage..which maybe'll take another year >=[, 2 bettas are plenty for me already, too much worry i think i need stress relievers too x]

Definately, you don't want to ever have just two females as in general one will be stronger and chase or pick the other to death.

i must have a couple whimps because they sleep together in my co2 dispenser :/ (its open so they can swim in), i came home late 1 night and turned on 1 of my lights and my 2 female bettas and 1 of my gouramis were in there snoozing but of course when i turned on the light all my fish swarmed to the front because they thought it was dinner time (the mods need to add a pig icon) :p

Hi caroline, my tank is a ten and it has 5 females. I wouldn't go less than 3 to spread out the aggression. Four is supposed to be a magic number, but I had a weaker one in there and three strongs, so I added a second weak and now it's fine.
If you do this I would make sure you have back-up bowls because there seems to be a lot of trial and error. -_-

Thanks for the great advice and the topic in general. I am a newbie ( my first post is this one) betta fanatic with three males in their own tanks, 2.5 gal. for one of them and 5 gallon tanks each for the other two. I'm really impressed with the individual personalities of these fish and decided that an all female tank would be my next step. So, I bought a ten gal. tank, a heater and filter and a few small fish to cycle the tank before I start looking for females. There doesn't seem to be any around at any of the LFS around here.

Next step has been to look at females on Aquabid and try to locate some before it gets really cold so the shipping wouldn't be so traumatic. ( any suggestions where else to look, and I have looked at ebay too, are welcome) vbg

My first dumb question is this, is it OK to mix the types of female bettas in this tank? Could I have DT,CT, HF females all mixed together or would I be better to keep all one type? Is one type more aggressive than another?

Thanks, Bassetbabe
