well after setting up my big tank, and putting most of my money into it, i have found that my sons loves it . So much in fact that he will sit in front of the tank down stairs of ages, looking into it as if it was a new word (which in a sort of way it is). i put it to my partner that it would be a good idea for me to start a tank just for him, so that he could have it in his room. the plan was set into motion and the result is...... well you know :)

Some of you have seen these pics before as i have a big thread in the hardware section , but i feel that it is only fit as it is a nano to be in the nano section.

as i had a started and the main tank all my money was going into that so the idea was to make this a cheaper build. in the end i have put more money in to coral in this tank than i have my own :( . we still have loads of work left to do but i do feel that we are now getting there. the one coral that may be comming out of this tank and into the main display could be the brain as i have found it is starting to grow fond of my orange zoos that live just across from it :( but only time will tell.

very sorry if it is taking a long time to load but i do feel it is worth the wait :) .

many thanks rob, beck's and baby reece . :good:

lol best excuse to start a second tank ever! :)

Looks excellent :good: You made that stand and hood as well didn't you? (great job on that if you did).

hehe first you showed ugly pictures of a tank with sand (boring) then BAM, hit us with colorful corals..... hurt my eyes....

My roommate used to make fun of me for staring into my tanks for 20 minutes at a time until he started really looking at them.

Glad to see you've passed the passion onto the little one!

yes i did build the hood and stand it was good fun its not the best job but it works. yea he loves it its nice that we both like doing it, he is nly 4 at the moment but he does ask to go to the fish shop LOL hes a good un .

thanks :) yea they are comming on good. think i need a bit more blue light in there, so i am going to getan 18w t8 tub and put it a long the back of the hood should help out abit. will also push the total wattage up to 128w , which for a littel 16 gal tank an't to bad.

the things ide do to have my tank looking like this lol

just out of quriosity how long has the tank been runnign for it to look as great as it does?? and secondly did you buy the mushrooms from ur lfs or have u done anything to influence there colour at all as i have a mushroom frag i got only this weekend gone and they all look to be a blue/green colour but they are all still small being no bigger than a 10p peice and some of them a 5p.

thanks and keep up the good tank work.

The tank was set up for about 4 weeks with just salty water running through it, every now and then I would turn the lights on just to see how it was all going. But in the back ground (the main tank) I had my filters in the sump (from the Fluval 3) and a cup of coral sand gaining that extra kick of life. Then when I had every thing ready I took the filters out of the sump placed them in the small fluval in the tank, also did the same with the cup of sand. And that started the boat moving. I left the tank then for about 2-3 weeks, after this point I placed some of my macros in there to see what would happen, at first they started to get full of a grey/brown slime, but after about a week it started to fall off and the macros started to grow new shoots. At this point I added a small clean up crew. 3 hermits and one true Mexican snail, I also dug out a few small Nassarius snails to help out the Mexican. After about 2 weeks I started to add some small frags from my main tank, just to see how it all went, all was well so I added a few more to try and get a bit of colour in there. Then a bout 1 weeks later both my self and the Mrs went down to are LFS and bought a farmed bit of live rock ( the one with all the mushes on) we had been looking at it for ages, had also be pestering the owner for it as it was in one of his display tanks. Anyway we walked away with it to the tune of 100.00 great British squid  . Placed it in the tank as soon as we got home (and yes I mean as soon as we got home could not even allowed to come around as there was very little water in the bag. I am told that this is how they come to the country and thus a 4 mile drive back to my house an't going to hurt it). So “splashâ€￾ and in it goes and within 2 hours every thing is open  and looking great. At this point the better half says we need two more of them and the tank will be done, but i want some LPS :( and I know that three more big bits of live rock is going to fill the tank :( . anyway after much :shout: I place one of my plate corals in the tank (once again from the main tank) and then I could just not stop with the LPS just every time we went then did not have any nice farmed softys in so we just kept on buying LPS, and well you can see the result LOL.

Hope that helps you out Rob :good:

well thank you , hope ing to set up some sort of reef rack at the back of the tank over the next few weeks , just so we have a bit more space for a few more bits, also i have seen a sexy little red spiny brain, that would fit nice down on the sand bed. but i will keep you all posted.

many thanks ROB :good:

well time for a little update :) , we bought are first of 4 fish  and he/she is a little sexy  but dam hard to get a nice clean pic of. you have to use a superfast shutter speed to get her in frame or the image just turns out all blurred :( . and if you do get her to be still then because a large section of her body is white the light from the tank over powers the Lense, and you get the wrog color and lose detail :( . so all in all very hard to take a pic :( . well here 4 for you anyway :good:

let me know what you think :)

Beautiful! One of the most colourful marine tanks I've seen. Wish my Parents were as keen on fish as you.
