Hey guys I have a 500L tank (with only 3 fish now!~), a nymph, and two other gold fish.

I did a water change yesterday (30%), gave the tank a clean, vacuumed, scrubbed the sides etc. refilled and re-conditioned/hardened the water accordingly.

Before this my nymph was fine. Now, he's active then all of a sudden he's limp for a while and just sits there. Then he gets active again for about 2 mins (usually churning threw gravel, probably looking for food), then he's limp again and just sits at the bottom of the tank.

About 2 months ago, the PH skyrocketted off the charts, because I went on a holiday and I couldnt clean the tank for about 5 weeks. I got the PH back under control and the fish was fine. Only today I wake up, and he was acting like this.

Any ideas/suggestions on what I should do? It's a cheap arse fish ($6), and I COULd go and get another one, but I've developed a love for this thing haha and I dont want it to die.

PH is perfect (now), and there has never been any ammonia present.

We need more info on your set up such as how often you do water changes and what filtration you use. How do you clean the filter out and how often.
You say you harden the water, how much by and whats the readings from the tap? It would be a good idea too to give ph, nitrite, nitrate and ammonia readings for us. Any other readings you have as well.
Nymphs arent the strongest breed of goldfish and succumb easily to disease. If he has started to bottom sit then it could be bacterial or a swimbladder problem.
Try feeding some variety such as dried daphnia and squashed cooked peas.

the fish appears fine now, swimming around as per usual.. dont know what came over him..

water changes every 2-4 weeks, vacuuming when i perform the water change.. only 3 gold fish in there, fluval cannister filter for filtration, two air stones to keep the water moving, its a 6ft high tank (I know it's not ideal)..
I dont have a nitrate test kit..

I have a chart for ammonia where the yellow colour is lowest (sorry I'm at work and don't remember the numbers), but every test I've done, the test has resulted a yellowy colour.

Ph is neutral (NOW) at about 7 (if I recall correctly).
