My sick little fish :(

hold on back up a pace... how do u know it had dropsy?

it could have been just constipation.. the member said

ok, he seems to be keeping his balance ok and i think he might be a little swollen.

this could have been anything!
as for saying add salt, did u not see the member had a plec in there? it is advised not to add salt with scaleless fish... plec being scaleless id imagine this as a huge no!

Shnookina : id advise u to do water tests, i know that only one has died atm and im sorry to hear ur loss... but it might have been due to water quality, can you answer me these questions

1) have any fish recently died apart from this one
2) how long has the tank been set up
3) how are your other fish?

can you see any spots or weird habits i.e not eating, flicking, rubbing?

once again sorry for ur loss

This is my first fish to die.
The tank was set up for a week b4 i got the fish, I am cycleing with them.
My other fish seem ok.
they are eating very well but i do see them going up to plants and flicking quick on them :dunno:

 Is there anything i can do?
also i forgot to mention she is a micky mouse platy, does this make any dif?

then it could have been NitrIte Poisoning, Red gills is a cause of this

i dont see what ur gettin at? have u worded it wrong?

id say that this is basic newbie fish deaths, dont mean to judge cause iv been there myself :/

when was the last time u did a water change?

with it being a 'new' setup ur benificial bacteria hasnt had chance to populate in ur filter an through out ur tank.. if you look at the pinned topics in this section it give u some usefull information

i recomend a 40% water change dont do ur filter, leave that for another week or two before rinsing the filter media out in used tank water

sounds to me like ur fish are dieing from ammonia/nitrite in the water (wich comes form the waste ur fish's produce) are all ur fish flicking/flashing against plants an decor? do they seem like they are breathing heavey?

u might lose another fish... this happens alot on the basic fish cycle.

also please get a test kit an let us know what the results are :)

heres a link that might/might not be usefull new tank syndrome

i should be able to test the water by the end of the week, the fish are flicking but their breathing is fine.

Shnookina said that it had red gills. Nitrite poisoning causes red gills (from what i understand) Thats just my best guess but the fish caould have come sick,...who knows.

well he has now had red gills for 2 days and he's fine apart from that, hes eating and breathing fine

Can you please post water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, red gills can be high nitrites, or gill flukes, red inflamed gills, heavy breathing, and flicking and rubbing against objects.
