My Shrimp Only Tank - Cherry And Crs

Just a quick update, things are growing nicely on this tank, earlier in the week I moved this tank to the new cabinet and its settled quick nicely. Only been dosing 5ml per week of TPN+ and EC, lets see how this does. Haven't added any more shrimp to the tank, still hoping to get some Red Nose and some Sulawesi, maybe later in the week. Have also some good news about the CRS, see photos below.

Wow!!!

I have been lent a Nikon 60mm 1:2.8 Macro lens and i'm not getting shots anywhere near as good as yours!!!

I'm using my Nikon D70s, shooting in JPEG Large files. I'm impressed.

If you know, can you let me know speeds and apature your shooting? Also high or low ISO!

I've only got the lens for a week so want to get some pics!!

Now i have to start my own thread, but my shots are not quiet as good as yours!!!

Simon

I can only dream about a mossy tank like that  Congrats on the berried CRS.

Are you going to put Sulawesi shrimps in the same tank?? Thought that they require quite different parameters to the CRS ????

All my photos contain the EXIF data, just save them to your PC and view the details ;)
I use the shutter speed mode and play with that, which always uses the lower end of the aperture, 2.8 in my case for photos without flash.
With the hotshoe flash unit I use the aperture mode and set it somewhere between f8 and f20, also use a diffusor on the flash.
With the built in flash is tricky, cover it up with a piece of printer paper and take photos at a slight angle not to get the flash reflection on the photos ;)
Hope that helps.

thanks :) yes I have read that too, but seen a tank from another member on a different forum that he is breeding both in the same tank with no problems.
Guess I could always give it a shot. Otherwise looks like I will have to start another breeding tank lol

Really fantastic shots, beautiful shrimp and tanks!
Many thanks :)

Your tanks really are something else mate, well done. You must have to spend quite some time on pruning etc....

Is the moss wall held in place on suckers or magnets?? What meshing did you use?

Nice one, looks amazing!!!

This tank is about two months old and so far no prunning, low light, low ferts, no CO2 = Very slow growth rates
The mesh is held with suckers as you can see on the photo on the previous page and was purchased on ebay.
Many thanks for the comments :)

That sounds cool :D Really look forward to seeing pictures of your new shrimps. Hope it works out for you :good:

Got some bad news about this tank, I have lost most of my CRS including 3 females carrying eggs :(
Might have been due to the heat wave we been having lately, noticed temps at 32ºC the other day and did a quick water change to lower things, I did install a fan under the lights and the temp now its at 23ºC, but was too late to save the CRS :(
The red cherries are breeding already and there are loads of shrimplets swimming around the tank.

Sorry to hear about your CRS's  About a week ago, I was just warning the other member who keeps CRS in the Inverts section about the heatwave in London. Too bad that these lovely shrimps are so vulnerable :/ Hope your surviving shrimps thrive to produce babies soon.

Have you managed to source the Sulawesi shrimps and higher grade CRS that you wanted yet? Don't forget to post pics when you get them :D

Just a quick update, the tank is doing great and the red cherries are breeding just fine :) this morning I counted at least 32 shrimplets that I could see. I haven't given up on the CRS, I should have a delivery on Tuesday of 15 to try again, I have kept fans on the tank now to keep the temps at around 23/24ºC.

Here some photos of my Cherries:

Thats all for now, thanks for looking :)

WOW - Fantastic tank mate, love the nice rich mossy look :good: :hyper:

I also have a 60L with 9 tetra's which I have just added 6 CRS to. I am now wanting to give them some moss to hide and eat in, and xmas or weeping moss was recommended (I want low maintenance, with low light and no CO2 requirements!).

I can't tell the difference between these 2 mosses - is there much difference, is one better than the other??

My plan is to tie the moss onto some slate pieces I have in the tank, and try and fashion them into some sort of structure to make a nice moss covered cave for my shrimpies :D

I'm also planning on putting a small marimo ball in for them too.

Thanks "Mr Bee" ;) I would get those tetras out of there, they will for sure eat the shrimplets, the only reasonably safe fish for shrimp breeding tanks are Ottos, but I wouldn't even had them, just get some nice snails for the tank ;) I am thinking about it too.
In my shimp tank I have weeping moss, spiky moss, xmas moss and flame moss. I find the xmas moss a nicer colour but grows much slower than the weeping moss that I have as the wall of the tank.
I just sent 5 packages with mosses and other plants to a few people today, I should have some more in a couple of weeks time to send out, let me know if you are interested. They will do fine on the slate, some spiky or weeping would be great ;)
Never tried marimo balls, don't really like them, but could be good for the shrimp, a few people use them.

Hi, I asked on here before adding my shrimps about the tetra's and everyone said they would be fine, although they would eat the shrimplets, the adult shrimp would be safe. But people said if I had plenty of plants and hiding places then some shrimplets would probably survive and just keep a nice colony sustained without really breeding and expanding too much. I moved a few slates around yesterday, and must have disturbed a little shrimplet from under them, so that must have been in a good hiding place - I felt guilty then after I disturbed it, as it swam off somewhere...... hope it managed to hide again!!

I would definately be interested in some moss when you have some more available; I'm wanting low maintenance and slow growing, so maybe xmas moss would be better, but I'm really not that fussy if you only have weeping moss available. From pictures I've seen I cant really tell the difference myself!!

How much do you charge for the moss? I would be interested if you could post some to me when you have some available in a couple of weeks. You could let me know on this thread, or PM or email me too :good:

Cheers :D
