My shoaling fish tank

That's a very nice tank! Do you have a particualr way of arranging plants or do you just shove them in?!

I am setting up another tank tomorrow and then again in a couple of weeks and I never seem to get the right look! Although I suppose everyone thinks that.

I love that neon tetra picture... I think it's going in the cool fish file on my computer :D

Even though their all the same fish, they are all flashing different shades of green. So cool! I actually have some neons from wal-mart that are a deep blue and some from my lfs that are more of a green. It's cool!!!

Munky,

It is actually one of the half buried pot type of ornaments - very similar to the Simlastone GP3 shown on this page.

Cheese,

I usually work out a planting plan using the heights of the plants, speed of growth, etc. Unfortunately on this one I tried using a different supplier and the plants were not as good, so they haven't grown as I wanted them to. I will be doing some more work on this in the near future and will post some more pics. At least I finally managed to get rid of the dreaded duckweed.

Cheers, Eddie

Nice plant layout in there Eddie!

I had a school of Harlequins a few years back now, they are very nice fish and school/shoal together very nicely!

How is your marine tank doing these days btw, any recent posts??

cheers

Found some info on "shoals" and "schools"...

1. School. A group of fish that swim in a synchronised manner, i.e. with similar speeds and direction. They also display a consistent Nearest Neighbour Distance (NND), which means they maintain the same distance between all immediately adjacent fish.

2. Shoal. Fish which are randomly orientated within a group and exhibit a variable NND. Shoals of fish on the move nearly always form schools.
