hes usually a friendly shark - and i know they can be aggressive

hes fine most of the time but when i add new fish to my tank for a couple of days after he goes mad - chasing them around the tank having a go. he even goes for the plec thats about 5 times bigger than him.

how do i stop him doing this? do i need to take him out of the tank - then add the new fish and then put him back in? or do i just let him show them whos boss? im just worried he will shock them and kill them :-(

thanks, Carina

Maybe he feels slightly out of place with the fish in your tank,

I am no expert but your stocking seems sporadic (no structure) with the types of you have a chosen. some need pairs some need groups. I know they are very terratorial, But I see your tank is a big un.

it may help to remove the albino shark, these guys can be, a problem if you keep them together. it seems one per tank is the basic rule.

when introducing fish to a tank containign agressive fish it's usually a good idea to re-arrange the tank as you introduce the new fish, this changes all they're territories so gives the new fish a chance to settle in and the rtbs won't think someone's invading his territory.

Red Tail Black Shark's are known for being territorial, so new fish won't know what's their territory or not. They'll learn in time where not to go.

Is he doing much damage to the fish, or is it just chasing?

The older/bigger they get, the more agressive and territorial they become. For sure do not keep them with any similar looking fish. With the other two sharks in there you will always have problems with agression.

hes not hurting them just chasing them, i introduced the fish at lunch time and hes now fine with them.

i guess i will just re-arrange the tank when i introduce more fish.

thanks for the help.
