My female platty is hurt.... she looks to have a red spot on her side like a bruise.. I have another adult female and male in the tank along with some smaller platties and one bottom feeder.... I have notced that the other female tends to chase her away if she gets to close to the male... A few times I have even seen the other female ram her in the side where her hurt is now.... is there anything I can do about this?... I dont think its a desease , the water is clear the other fish is fine and I did a water change yesterday.. I also have two filters in the tank, because I found one just didnt do the job.. I have added quick cure to the tank in hope that she heals... She is my best breader and I dont want to loose her, althought I have tuns of fish to replace her.

Thanks for the help

Put her in a isolation chamber.. cheap 3.79 or something at petsmart, its for fry as well. Should allow her to heal.

i've found Platties do be very melodramatic fish.

i have the same situation going on between my six (2:4) the three Big Girls are always together, closely followed by Zane. Baby Kiss wants to be with the Big Girls, but since she's small Zane doesn't like her and chases her off. Firefly is my non-breeding loner-boy, and she hangs out with him a bit. i want to bring another pair of females in to add to Firefly's little harem.

perhaps these girlies just like their man, if the tank is big enough i'd suggest getting more. while not truly a schooling fish each one seems to like having their own buds to be with, and your girl might think the boy is hers only!

She had a sister when i got her both are golden platty but her sister died about two weeks ago.... One of my tank tragies before i got the conditions in it under control... since then she has been kinda a loner.. then my male made the moves on her got her pregnant and she had more babies.. the other female has not had a brood yet even though she mated with the male... I wonder if fish get jealous? :shifty:

ahh, perhaps fish do get jealous...

Flash is always eyeing Crumple's nice, big tank...

jealousy?

but more Platties are definately the best option, 'cause if the Mean Girlie keeps beating the Pregnant Girlie up you might lose her, giving Mean Girlie more fish to bully and Pregnant Girlie more fish to hide with will lower the odds of her being singled out and killed.
