Hey,

I brought a young common(I think) pleco around two weeks ago. He was quite lively the first 2 days then became less active during the day, I assumed that he was more active at night. I've not been sure that it has been feeding, as I feed it before going to bed.

I noticed today that there was a greyish patch on his back, and decided to do some research. Within an hour he was had died.

Any ideas as to why?

Ammonia and nitrite are both 0.25 and I'm due to do a water change tommorrow.

P.S. I'm a newbie

Kinda hard to say for sure. Might just have been the shock of moving to a new tank. Did you have a long time between tank to tank?

Is there anything in the tank that might have attacked it?

the fact that you have ammonia and nitrite present probably means that your tank is either new and not fully cycled, in which case, not suitable for fish.
or, the tank is overstocked and the filter cannot handle the bioload, in which case, you cant put more fish in.

It appears that I was sold a filter was was not big enough for my tank. Sadly, I only brought a new one yesterday and was installing it when I discovered he had died.
