my nitrates are between 0-5 in all mytanks and my tanks are all flourishing with plants. i use standard homebase lighting tubes, no ferts, no substrates, just argos sand.

i can fill that in for you, its to hold a piece of vegetable down for a plec or other catfish eat

Oh wow your tanks are amazing. So i still dont understand why mine arent flourishing. Especially as your lighting isnt much stronger than mine either

lack of nutrients, and or CO2 is why, im guessing rocknurworld is working with 60 litre tanks? seeing as theyre 2 feet. in a smaller tank more lighting is needed too produce the same result and with a bigger tank not so much light will be needed.

other things that can make a difference is the nutrients that are in your tap water etc

I use a fork. lol. Much easier to stab a piece of veg and then just drop the fork in rather than having to get my hands wet. I do that 10 seconds later when I notice a leaf out of place

Hehe, I've found myself wearing short sleeves this winter just so my sleeves aren't always wet from tinkering in the tank.

Well good news for once. I started to add ferts and co2 last weekend and already the vallis has much stronger growth, and although it goes against everything i know the anubias is growing like weeds! Lol, I'm happy now, i just need to complete the tank with a couple pygmy hatchets and then im done
