My Planted Tank Journal

but saying that with the co2 they should grow pretty quick anyway shouldnt they? are you think of adding fish? if i had you tank i would deffinately steerclear of fish like plecs because they seem to destroy my plants, i could just imagine a shoal of neons and rasboras swiming in and out.

p.s how about trying to get hold of some of that aquatics grass type plant to cobver the bottom of the tank?

F.O.H

way a haed of ya there,

i have some ricca on order but it hasn't yet come in, thats going on a few slates to be placed on the bottom right hand side, to fill that gap up,

i do have a bristle nosed plec from my first tank, which currently houses all my fish, there is no rush for the rehoming, i want to get everything going smoothly and stable before i get the fish in,

the lfs have some lovely cardinal tetra's that i have my eye on, they can go in with the 6 neons i have.

just got in and have done the tests on current and last nights water,

these are the results

ph-

from last night left 24hrs = 7.0
when i tested the water last night when i took the sample it was ph 6.0

so that is a 1.0 jump indicating 30ppm co2???

this is the tank water results as per the nutrafin,

i left the co2 off till i got in

ph-6.4
kh-30ppm or 1.68 dkh
gh-60ppm or 3.36 dgh

do these make sense?

i now have my solonoid fitted so that will come on 1hr before the lights and go off 1hr before the light go off, approx 1bps

jake

these are the results from this morning, after the first night with the solonoid

ph has stablised at 6.4

kh has gone up to 40ppm

dint check gh

think its getting better as this gives me 26ppm of co2.

i still cant get over how big your co2 bottle is lol, i have a co2 canister but it is as whole 8" long, i cant wait to see the tank once it is all completed.

Where do you live btw? you might have someone come knocking at your door lol.

oth the frame primed around the tank,

also noticed a slight deficiancy

think its zinc

also added some fresh media from the mature tank, and two little neons, they are still there this morning and seem to be waying up there new home nicely, when the lights were out i saw them venture to the top of the tank

Quality thread Jake!

However (there`s always a however), have you got enough fast growing stems in there?

Dave.

wow  that's quite a tank, jake! Looks amazing!

I'd love to have a tank built into the wall like that.

dave i've got some fast growning plants on order-i forget there names i know one is watersprite and the other i think is a hornwort possibly.

why do you think there are to many slow growing ones, tbh there seems to be quite a bit of growth already in the plants,
and im still waiting for the ricca to arrive, would that be classed as fast growing????

Thread #24, fourth picture, plant on the right. That is your Hydrocotyle leucocphala, with round, horizontal leaves. It grows like mad and chucks out loads of nutrient sucking roots from each leaf nodule. I am using it in my disastrous 60l as an algae buster. Having taken a second look, and bearing in mind your next plant delivery, you should be well on top of things algae wise. Just try and keep the CO2 and nutrients stable and in excess.

Dave.
